Patriot Engineering and Environmental is looking for an entry to mid-level Environmental Staff Scientist to join our talented and impactful Environmental team in our Indianapolis, IN office. Patriot Engineering and Environmental is an Employee Owned diverse engineering firm providing geotechnical, environmental, and construction materials testing services and consultation to commercial, industrial and governmental clients.
Career Opportunity
Patriot has an opening for an Environmental Staff Scientist. This position will conduct field work planning, collection and documentation of soil/water/air samples, environmental monitoring and reporting, data management and reporting, industrial by-product management and land application assistance, and may conduct construction observations and documentations for a variety of project types with a focus on environmental compliance. The ideal candidate would enjoy a balance of office and field tasks, exhibiting positive contractor and client relations in the office and the field.
Essential Functions:
  • Coordinate and assist with scoping and scheduling field investigations and routine environmental monitoring events
  • Oversee and conduct soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, and air monitoring sampling
  • Coordinate schedules for on-going monitoring events; develop and maintain compliance calendars
  • Collect, and interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance
  • Conduct Erosion and Sediment Control Inspections.
  • Review and revise Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs)
  • Conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Conducting soil, groundwater and surface water sampling.
  • Assisting with review, evaluation, and interpretation of environmental data and prepare technical reports.
  • Maintain detailed records of field activities
  • Interact and communicate with clients, vendors, and Patriot team at all levels.
  • Adhere to and promote Patriot's health and safety and loss prevention procedures and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, to accommodate schedules
  • Ability to travel to other offices and project sites, including extended overnight stays out of town or out of state, as needed; field work may take place in remote locations with minimal amenities available

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or Science related field commensurate with education, training, and experience
  • Prepare technical documents using MS Word, and Excel
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and terrain conditions
  • Excellent computer and technical skills

Qualifications (con't):
  • Experience with utilizing a tablet and various applications to promote paperless documentation procedures
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs. and do repetitive work such as lifting, bending and standing for long period of time
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather
