Job description

Corteva Agriscienceis seeking an Environmental Fate Scientist to join the Predictive Safety Center (PSC) within Global Regulatory Sciences. As a member of the Predictive Environmental Sciences team, this role is accountable for the conduct of environmental fate (Efate) studies to support the development of new crop protection active ingredients. This role is also responsible for the development and implementation of new laboratory assays to facilitate the high-throughput characterization of new active ingredients under the guidance of subject matter experts (SMEs). This position is site-dedicated and is located in Indianapolis, IN.
What You'll Do:
The successful candidate will serve as an Efate scientist in the screening and characterization of new crop protection active ingredients in Discovery Phase; this includes:
  • Plan, conduct, evaluate, and summarize laboratory environmental fate studies for new active compound screening and characterization in Discovery stages.
  • Direct laboratory technicians and contractors in study conduct and data collection.
  • Collaborate with internal cross functional teams and external partners to explore and implement new predictive approaches (e.g., in silico and in vitro studies).
  • Provide mentorship and training to new or inexperienced team members. Promote sharing of information and a team-oriented spirit of collaboration.
  • Comply with laboratory safety procedures, Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for use and handling of radioactive materials, and other study-specific regulatory requirements.
  • Effectively utilizes organizational networking to influence decision making.
  • Research and evaluate novel approaches, instrumentation, and technology to improve the conduct of Efate assays.

What Skills You Need:
A successful candidate for this position will meet the following qualifications:
  • B.S. or M.S. degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, or related field with special emphasis in the disciplines of analytical or environmental chemistry.
  • 3+ years of laboratory research experience in environmental chemistry or related field. Experience using liquid chromatography and other analytical techniques is preferred.
  • Relevant laboratory experience in environmental fate or a related field, with working experience in service of the agrochemical industry preferred. Experience with common bench chemistry procedures and equipment.
  • Comfortable working with carbon-14 radioactive substances while adhering to all Corteva safety procedures.
  • Effective project management skills. Ability to manage time to meet deadlines for concurrent projects. Demonstrate ownership of results.
  • Adept at working effectively in a team environment, with active contribution of new ideas while openly receiving insights from colleagues.
  • Strong scientific communication skills, with an ability to present complex technical information and distill into a clear message.
