Job description

Biodynamic Research Corporation | San Antonio, Texas

Biodynamic Research Corporation is seeking a PhD-level engineer or scientist to join our consulting team. This role applies advanced engineering, biomechanical, human factors, and scientific principles to complex questions involving accident reconstruction, injury causation, occupant kinematics, transportation safety, and litigation support.

This is a unique opportunity for a research-oriented professional to work at the intersection of engineering, medicine, science, and law. Consultants support attorneys, insurance professionals, and technical experts by analyzing case materials, applying scientific research, developing defensible opinions, preparing technical reports, and supporting expert testimony.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct engineering, biomechanical, human factors, or scientific analyses related to accident events and injury causation
  • Review case materials, including accident reports, medical records, depositions, technical reports, photographs, videos, and other evidence
  • Conduct literature reviews and apply scientific research to case-specific questions
  • Prepare technical reports, exhibits, presentations, and demonstrative materials
  • Participate in client meetings, case strategy discussions, inspections, testing, depositions, and trial preparation as needed
  • Support BRC research initiatives, including study design, testing, publication, and conference presentations
  • Collaborate with physicians, engineers, accident reconstruction experts, and other technical professionals

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Applied Physics, Transportation Safety, Kinesiology/Biomechanics, or a closely related engineering or scientific discipline
  • Strong analytical, research, technical writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Interest in litigation support, expert consulting, accident reconstruction, injury biomechanics, or applied scientific analysis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Peer-reviewed publications or scientific presentations
  • Research experience in biomechanics, injury causation, human performance, transportation safety, crashworthiness, aerospace, accident reconstruction, or related areas
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, R, simulation tools, data acquisition systems, modeling software, or statistical analysis
  • PE license, ACTAR certification, SAE certifications, or interest in obtaining relevant credentials
  • Prior consulting, expert witness, deposition, or litigation support experience preferred but not required

Why Join BRC?

At BRC, our consultants work at the intersection of engineering, medicine, science, and law. We apply rigorous scientific methods to solve complex real-world questions involving injury causation, transportation safety, accident reconstruction, and human performance.

Consultants have opportunities to conduct research, publish findings, present nationally, perform testing, and contribute directly to high-profile litigation matters.

Company Description

Biodynamic Research Corporation (BRC) is a professional services firm specializing in biomechanical analysis and accident reconstruction. BRC is located in San Antonio, Texas and serves clients throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico.

BRC was founded in 1986 by Dr. James V. (Jim) Benedict, a physician with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. The focus of BRC at that time was to retrospectively analyze automotive collisions, determine the application of the collision’s forces to the vehicle occupants, and determine the injury consequences. Over the years, BRC has applied this type of analysis to numerous traumatic incidents including, but not limited to, both high and low velocity passenger vehicle collisions, slip and fall events, and injury events involving aircraft, bicycles, motorcycles, ATVs, boats, elevators, forklifts, tractor-trailers, trains, amusement park rides, power tools and light industrial equipment.

Today, BRC has more than 60 full-time and part-time personnel performing or supporting a myriad of professional service activities related to biomechanics and accident reconstruction. These include physicians, most of whom also have engineering degrees, or who have a PhD in engineering, technicians with degrees in engineering, Nurse Analysts, Paralegals, Visual Communications professionals and a Research Librarian, as well as various administrative support professionals.

BRC's experts are oftentimes designated and asked to provide expert analysis and testimony during litigation proceedings. Over the past 25+ years, in addition to numerous depositions, BRC’s experts have testified in more than 1000 trials throughout the United States as well as in Puerto Rico, and several Canadian provinces.

BRC has also conducted extensive internally funded research related to biomechanics and accident reconstruction. This research has been published in a variety of peer-reviewed technical journals.
