Position description
The University of California at Berkeley seeks applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty appointment at the level of assistant professor in the Department of History.
The Department of History is one of the largest and most distinguished units in UC Berkeley's College of Letters and Science. The Department's faculty ranges across virtually all of the major geographical and chronological fields recognized by the discipline and includes experts in many areas of pivotal thematic significance.

The position is defined as African History, which refers to the past of human societies on the African continent. All fields, areas, and periods of African History will be considered (political, economic, environmental, cultural, intellectual, social, diplomatic, transnational, the history of gender and sexuality, the history of borderlands, migration, and diaspora etc.).

PhD (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.
Preferred qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent international degree is preferred by date of hire.

This could include, for example, efforts to build an equitable, diverse, and interdisciplinary learning environment for all students, participating in professional organizations, serving on committees that advance the goals of the School or institution, or conducting outreach activities that remove barriers and support increased participation of individuals from all backgrounds.
  In your statement you could also discuss specific activities connected to the African continent. This could include relationships with African institutions and academic colleagues based in African countries, time spent working in Africa or on Africa-related issues, and any other engagements undertaken connected to Africa.
• Teaching Evaluations - Should you find it challenging to provide teaching evaluations, kindly submit a memo clarifying the reason for the unavailability.
• Syllabi - Candidates are invited to submit up to three syllabi for courses in History, whether they are merely proposed or have been taught by the candidate, directed at a range of student audiences and formats (lower-division lectures, upper-division lectures or seminars, graduate courses).
• Published and/or Unpublished Scholarly Work - 1 - Candidates are invited to submit a copy of their dissertation, or published monograph based on the dissertation. For candidates who have not completed their Ph.D. please submit as much of the dissertation draft as possible.
• Published and/or Unpublished Scholarly Work - 2 - In addition to the dissertation or monograph based on the dissertation, candidates are invited to submit up to three representative publications or research outputs which might include peer-reviewed articles or book chapters. All supplemental publications should be uploaded as a single file, accompanied by a table of contents.
