Job description

Pharmacy Technician

Job Description

Under general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, assists the Pharmacists, the Pharmacy Technician Manager, and the Floor Team Leader in the filling of prescriptions, including running the computers and packaging machines, counting, labeling, stocking, and other pharmacy related activities.

Responsibilities
  • Dispense medications via appropriate packaging systems -- compliance packaging, bottle fill or blister card. Follow all quality control steps outlined in SafeDose's policies and procedures ensuring accuracy and timeliness of orders.
  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs. Apply safe waste disposal procedures.
  • Order, label and count stock of medications and supplies. Receive incoming medications and supplies, verify quantities against invoices and inform supervisors of stock needs and shortages.
  • Be familiar with the operation of the pharmacy computer system and the packaging machines.
  • Help maintain a clean, well-organized pharmacy with efficient workflow and outstanding customer service.
  • Follow the direction of SafeDose Management, Director of Pharmacy, Staff Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technician Manager and Floor Team Leader in a timely, efficient manner; willingly assist in company and departmental matters or work in any area of the pharmacy when necessary.

Qualifications

Education

  • The individual must be a high school graduate or have successfully completed a General Education Development program.
  • The individual must have successfully completed a board approved training program conducted by a pharmacy or educational organization.
  • The individual must complete an approved HIPAA training program.
  • The individual must have received their Indiana State Pharmacy Technician license or have applied for a temporary license and must be eligible to receive their license within 30 days of employment.

Experience

  • The individual must have not been convicted of a crime that has a direct bearing on the individual's ability to work with legend drugs or controlled substances.

Skills & Abilities

  • Pharmacy Knowledge: Understanding of standards of patient confidentiality and ethics governing pharmacy practice; Working knowledge of pharmaceutical-medical terminology, abbreviations, and symbols commonly used in prescriptions and drug orders; Working knowledge of the general storage, packaging and labeling requirements of drugs, prescriptions and drug orders; Ability to perform arithmetic calculations required for usual dosage determinations; Working knowledge and understanding essential to functions related to drug purchasing and inventory control; Follows all state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the practice of pharmacy.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with an expectation to work an average of 40 hours per week and be available outside of normal business hours to meet customer expectations on an ad-hoc basis. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
