About the JobGeneral Summary of Position

The Inpatient Pharmacy team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center is hiring a Full Time Pharmacy Procurement Coordinator. This role will assist the Senior Pharmacy Procurement Coordinator in maintaining appropriate inventory levels of pharmaceuticals and related supplies for the Pharmacy Department. Under the direct supervision of pharmacy management, supports cost-reduction initiatives through improved standardization, utilization, and price-leveling strategies. Identifies, coordinates, implements, and documents cost-savings and cost-containment projects to improve departmental efficiency and financial performance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works with Senior Pharmacy Procurement Coordinator to determine most competitive price/service arrangements.
  • Uses vendor website and split software entries to place orders appropriately. Maintain accounts and NDC compliance as per HRSA requirements.
  • Maintains accounts on websites and confirms that the information regarding pharmaceuticals vendors and wholesalers is current at all times.
  • Posts invoices, ensures correct vendor information, and interfaces with vendors to report and correct discrepancies. Input is done in a personal computer environment.
  • Takes inventory of pharmaceuticals and other supplies on scheduled and unscheduled basis. Rotates stock as necessary and removes stock with out-of-date shelf life.
  • Maintains inventory at predetermined par levels to assure adequate stock for production and compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Assists Senior Pharmacy Procurement Coordinator in developing short- and long-term cost reduction strategies. Provides feedback to customers regarding status of orders usage analysis cost savings analysis for new contracts and/or updates on shopping templates.
  • Performs routine procurement duties such as ensuring past due orders are filled expeditiously and/or monitors the various reports to address problem areas and service related issues.
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimal QualificationsEducation
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred
Experience
  • 1-2 years of job-related experience in purchasing and inventory activities including experience with basic computer principles required
