Patent Agent / Scientific Advisor

In this role, you will help drive the company’s Intellectual Property (IP) initiatives by collaborating across various functions to develop and draft patent disclosures. We seek someone who will play a crucial role in evaluating new inventions, formulating patent strategy, and securing intellectual property rights for novel technologies. You will support the growth and management of the company’s patent portfolio, including docketing and tracking key deadlines, drafting and prosecution of patent applications. This position reports to the Intellectual Property Manager.

What You’ll Do
  • Analyze invention disclosures, scientific publications, and technical data, communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Conduct prior art, patentability and freedom to operate searches to counsel R&D and business colleagues.
  • Work closely with patent practitioners and inventors to draft patent applications and other IP documents.
  • Respond to office actions and all other correspondence related to patents.
  • Maintain patent dockets and handle internal reporting.
  • Monitor developments in relevant scientific and patent literature.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer chemistry, material science, or a closely related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
  • Recently passed the USPTO Patent Bar Examination; or currently studying for or planning to take the Patent Bar Examination.
  • Communication skills to act as a facilitator in IP brainstorming session and patent application drafting.
  • Technical writing skills – ability to draft clear, concise technical documents including invention summaries.
  • Proven ability to perform complex IP analyses including product clearances, technology landscapes and prior art searches. Familiarity with patent searching databases and AI search tools desired.
  • Analytical and organization skills – strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Train scientists/engineers and business personnel on intellectual property matters.
  • Actively prioritize work responding to deadlines and changing critical needs.
  • Registered US Patent Agent preferred.
