POSITION SUMMARY
Experience a rewarding opportunity to make a difference in the animal welfare world as it relates to shelter and/or rescue work and care. Aside from the general care of animals, we are looking for someone that is well organized and good at prioritizing tasks since our Animal Welfare Specialist/Adoption Counselors are also required to do inventory and customer service or volunteer-related tasks. We are looking for someone with great communication and problem-solving skills. It is also important to be able to work and communicate in a team environment because you will not only be working with other specialists/attendants and partner facilities, but also with Clinic technicians and veterinarians. Dependability is required to meet the daily needs of our rescue animals. Our ideal candidate is a hard working individual who enjoys interacting with people and animals, and who possesses the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Prepare and distribute food and enrichment items daily.
- Restocking supplies
- Removing soiled litter and leftover food
- Collecting, and disposing of fecal matter
- Disinfecting the area, and replacing the cleared materials.
- Transporting the animals to different areas or locations
- Carrying out specialized bathing, grooming, and exercise routines.
- Assist in the administration of other basic procedures and giving medications as directed by a veterinarian.
- Observing animals and checking for signs of disease, illness, or discontent.
- Maintaining equipment used and making sure they are in good working condition
- Responsibility for maintaining proper disease control protocols, including deep cleaning of the facility,
- Anything required for daily appointments, cleaning, laundry, and general maintenance.
- Updating treatment sheets, and shelter program records.
- Following animal flow charts to ensure animals receive medications as directed by a veterinarian.
- Execute the adoption process of animals in the facility.
- Sweep, mop, and scrub facility floors daily
- Assist and engage with volunteers to ensure daily tasks are completed and assigned.
- Follow Safety Protocols and training routines for Dog Handling as provided by your supervisor.
- Wear appropriate attire to include: Closed toed shoes (no Crocs), Fitted clothing so items will get caught on kennels or equipment. Tank tops are not acceptable.
- Show maturity, good judgment, and perform duties in a professional manner.
- Must be in good physical and mental health with no allergic condition, which might be aggravated, due to exposure to animals.
- Ability to work under pressure and stay calm in stressful situations
- Demonstrated capability to be a self-starter, facilitator, and organizer
- Communication is key in all aspects of your accountabilities.
CLIENT/FOSTER COMMUNICATION AND EDUCATION:
Client/Foster education is an essential responsibility of this position since we are an animal rescue organization, and handle a lot of animals for adoption, it is vital that you are continually educating yourself and our clients, fosters, and potential adopters.
- Must be able to learn and communicate basic veterinary medical concepts, including but not limited to vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks.
- Must also be able to communicate basic veterinary concepts to owners/fosters, and be able to repeat information relayed by a veterinarian
- Will be asked to communicate with the public daily in a professional manner.
- Will be required to attend webinars for continued education in dog behavior and training
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work standing or sitting for 8 or more hours.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the day and up to 100 lbs with help.
- Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly.
- Must be able to see fine details in a variety of situations.
- Must have good hearing including ability to distinguish changes in pitch.
- Must have a reasonable degree of agility to move through tightly cramped areas.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
