Job description

TITLE:  Delivery Driver

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The purpose of this position is to deliver products ordered by customers to the address they give when they place the order, and to do so safely and efficiently.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following functions have been determined to be essential to the successful performance of this position.

When the word "policies" or the phrase "policies and procedures" or similar language is used in any of the Company's documents, the term refers to all policy and procedure bulletins, manuals, training materials, memoranda, newsletters, communications on the “Document Viewer” on the computer, and all other documents and oral discussions with team members.

I. PERSONAL VEHICLE  

  1. Delivery Drivers are responsible for driving their personally owned vehicles while driving on behalf of the Company. Drivers’ vehicles must be reliable, and in good working condition.
  2. Drivers’ vehicles must be very clean.  All of Company’s food, beverages, and other items must be placed on a seat; not on the floor of the vehicle.

II. MVR/DRIVING RECORD/BACKGROUND CHECK

  1. All Delivery Drivers must have a qualifying motor vehicle history, in accordance with Company policy and as required by the Company’s insurance carrier. 
  2. MVRs will be run on all delivery drivers after they have been hired, but prior to those team members driving on behalf of the Company.
  3. Delivery Drivers must not have any criminal convictions that directly relate to the performance of their positions with the Company.
  4. Criminal Background Checks will be run concerning all Delivery Drivers.  Only convictions (and not arrests) will be considered.  Checks will be run on all delivery drivers after they have been hired, but prior to those team members driving on behalf of the Company.
  5. After Delivery Drivers are hired, they will complete a Background Check Information Form and a Background Check Authorization Form authorizing the Company to run MVRs and Criminal Background Checks.  Detailed information regarding Background Checks is contained in the Company’s Background Check Policy.

III. DELIVERIES

A. Delivery Drivers set up personal owned vehicles and prepare for deliveries using the checklist provided by the Company. Includes items such as mounting sign on vehicle, checking maintenance items on vehicle, such as tire pressure, oil level, water in the battery, and adding gasoline if needed.

B. Delivery Drivers deliver products to the customer following these procedures.

  1. The Manager on Duty will determine which Delivery Driver will be dispatched for each particular order.
  2. Upon being dispatched and until Delivery Drivers return to the restaurant, Delivery Drivers will be paid at the delivery rate, and reimbursed for their vehicles’ maintenance and related expenses while they are driving on behalf of the Company.  The reimbursement rate is determined based on the location of the restaurant, the age and make/model of the vehicle, in addition to the quantity of miles driven by the Delivery Driver.
  3. Tickets for delivery orders, and credit card slips, accompany delivery to customer's house for verification of address.  
  4. Delivery Drivers load Company’s food products and beverages for the customer’s order into delivery vehicle and drive to the address on the delivery order.
  5. Delivery Drivers give the products to the customer, obtain cash payment and/or obtain customer’s signature on the credit card slip. 
  6. Driver returns to the Pizza Hut for another delivery or continues with other deliveries already in the vehicle.
  7. Upon returning to the Pizza Hut restaurant, the delivery funds will be deposited into the safe.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following are job functions customarily performed by the person responsible for this position, but are not considered essential functions.

  1. Most Delivery Drivers will be required to assist with Production tasks. 
  2. And at the end of shift, or at close, the person responsible for this position cleans the area where delivery orders are held prior to delivery; cleans and restocks the maketable work area and other areas in the Pizza Hut restaurant to prepare for the next shift.  This includes sweeping, mopping the floor, wiping off tables, washing dishware, glassware, silverware, pans and utensils used in preparing and serving food to customers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: The following are the qualifications and minimum requirements necessary for a person to perform this job.

A. Able to perform or able to learn to perform the essential functions of the position, and do so at an acceptable pace.

B. A valid drivers license.

C.Valid insurance on personal vehicle maintained minimally at state required level.

D. A qualifying motor vehicle history and criminal conviction record, in accordance with Company policies and as required by the Company’s insurance carrier.

E.Ability to locate delivery locations.

F.Sufficient physical condition to perform the functions of the position.  Position involves these physical processes:

  1. Lifting completed menu items, packing them, and loading/unloading them into the Delivery Driver’s vehicle.
  2. Bending and stooping. Must be able to stoop down and bend over to stock items stored in reach in refrigerator and under the make table.  
  3. Standing and walking.  The majority of on job time is spent standing, walking, and driving.
  4. Must have sufficient visual ability to drive a vehicle.
  5. Must be able to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and customers.
  6. Must be physically able to work under conditions of high temperature.  Food preparation areas are located close to ovens.  Ambient temperature in this area often exceeds 80 degrees.

G. Self-control.  Must be able to work under conditions of stress due to pressures from volume of business, time and variety of orders, while maintaining self composure and interacting effectively with co-workers and supervisors.

H. Mental alertness.  At times the person responsible for this position works alone, without supervision or assistance.  Must have sufficient mental ability to work effectively without supervision or assistance and perform the job functions in a consistent and reliable manner.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Delivery vehicle is personally owned and must meet state vehicle safety regulations.  Must be four-wheeled vehicle with enclosed passenger compartments.  Must be kept clean and maintained.

"Make Table"  An open topped, refrigerated, compartmented table for the storage of food items used in the preparation of products for customer orders.  

"Walk-in"  A refrigerated compartment of sufficient size to allow the individual to actually walk into the  refrigerated compartment to obtain or store perishable items.

"Portion Cups"  These are volumetric cups used by Pizza Hut restaurants for portioning cheese and toppings for pizzas.

"Oven"  A power driven device operated at high temperatures used to bake food products.

"Reach in"  A refrigerated piece of equipment with doors which open to allow dough or pizza ingredients to be stored inside for easy access.

"Point of Sale Computer"   Electronic device used in tracking orders, inventory, payroll information.  Contains cash drawer used to make change for customer transactions, track paid outs, delivery orders, dispatching.
