This is a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees who have permanent status and are ready to advance in their career. Provide executive-level leadership, direction, and oversight of nursing services and programs at Louisiana State Penitentiary, ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of quality healthcare while maintaining appropriate staffing, regulatory compliance, performance standards, and continuity of nursing operations. The position also serves as the primary assistant to the RN Director of Nursing and assumes the Director's responsibilities in their absence.

Minimum Qualifications Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following: Five years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR A bachelor's degree in nursing plus four years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR A master's degree in nursing or public health plus four years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR A doctorate in nursing or public health plus three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse. Job Specification The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here. Job Duties and Other Information Direct and Manage Nursing Services and Clinical Programs - Directs nursing services across assigned areas, including mental health, specialty and general medicine clinics, telemedicine, off-site medical trips, pill call, chronic disease, admission units, inpatient nursing units, hemodialysis, hospice/palliative care, and other specialized nursing programs.

Provide Nursing Administration, Staffing, and Personnel Management - Oversees nursing operations, determines staffing needs and organizational structure, ensures adequate nursing coverage, manages hiring and employee performance, supervises subordinate managers and staff, and addresses personnel and disciplinary matters. Ensure Quality Improvement, Regulatory Compliance, and Staff Education - Directs quality assurance/performance improvement activities, nursing education and continuing education, infection control, employee health, risk management, and compliance with applicable policies, licensing requirements, and ACA performance-based standards. Provide Executive Nursing Leadership and Administrative Oversight - Serves as the primary assistant to the RN Director of Nursing and assumes the Director's duties in their absence; oversees budgets, supplies and equipment, program evaluation, operational policies and procedures, statistical reporting, and coordination with other healthcare and institutional departments.

Employee will work with adult male inmates of all custody levels - minimum, medium, maximum (death row) and protective custody. Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC) The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted, or may be required to accept a probational appointment. Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate of $51.28 per hour

There is a Premium Pay rate up to $5.00 per hour for each hour worked based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
