About Mote

Mote is developing a first-of-a-kind technology for woody waste biomass that removes CO2 from the air and produces clean hydrogen to help the world meet climate goals, improve air quality, and reduce wildfires. We are developing modular projects based on our innovative and groundbreaking biomass gasification process that also enables permanent carbon sequestration. This includes a pilot-scale Advanced Testing Center in Los Angeles. We are looking for standout individuals who are driven by reversing climate change to join our growing team, to help build our company, and to contribute to our culture.

About the Team

The Business team is responsible for shaping the future of the company by securing commercial contracts and creating industry partnerships for Mote’s modular gasification facilities. We are responsible for generating leads, understanding industry trends, cultivating relationships, scoping and applying for grants and other funding opportunities, and negotiating commercial contracts. Mote’s modular gasification technology can be deployed in a variety of applications, utilizing waste biomass feedstocks to produce syngas, hydrogen, CO2, and potentially other energy products. The Business team will work creatively to find niche partnerships for early deployments of the technology. Target customers for early projects include glass manufacturers, hydrogen vehicle and transit fleets, green ammonia manufacturers, fulfillment centers, innovative data centers, and others that the successful candidate may identify.

Depending on the candidate’s experience and skills, the role may include contributions to business strategy and corporate fundraising. Title is negotiable based on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Source and negotiate MOUs, LOIs, and commercial agreements for joint project development, hydrogen offtake, carbon dioxide offtake, and other kinds of partnerships
  • Identify and solicit new business to build and maintain a pipeline of projects.
  • Work through company-provided leads to progress existing relationships, ultimately resulting in investment, offtake, project partnerships or other mutually beneficial goals
  • Own the customer relationship from first meeting through contract execution. This includes managing the cadence of meetings, redlining contracts, coordination with internal team (executive, technical, finance, legal) to ensure accuracy in contracts, and leading negotiations with the customer
  • Identify client needs and suggest terms of partnership that are mutually beneficial
  • Prepare tailored term sheets for offtake after consulting with internal finance team
  • Input customer data in a CRM, track development, and summarize/present key leads for executive team periodically.
  • Attend and speak at industry conferences on behalf of the Company to gain exposure and create new contacts
  • Utilize funding and grant opportunities as a platform to further develop new and existing relationships through collaboration on grant applications and grant projects

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in technical business development
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with B2B sales or partnerships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant 4-year Bachelor’s degree (engineering, business, etc.)
  • Experience in clean energy, carbon removal, bioenergy, or a related field
