Job description

Monitoring Engineer

As a Monitoring Engineer , you have hands-on experience working in a fully functional Agile software development or operations team in a development and engineering capacity supporting monitoring tools (e.g., ExtraHop, Splunk, ThousandEyes, etc.). You will be working with engineering, applications, and system owners to clarify monitoring requirements and business needs, providing direction and support for teams to become self-sufficient in the use of the tools.

What You'll Do:

  • You'll be responsible for the design, support, and maintenance of a large enterprise observability platform.
  • You'll assist in supporting JVM and component-level monitoring in non-prod environments, playing an important part in development and testing activities.
  • You'll document processes and procedures, system configurations, revision and patch management of supporting software and hardware.
  • You'll do a mix of engineering, consultative collaboration (training), and hands-on customer/tool support.
  • You'll devise new and innovative ways to analyze huge amounts of security data to nefarious activity.
  • You'll collaborate with IT Architecture to understand future system state.
  • You'll review the acquisition, configuration, testing, implementation and troubleshooting of secure network management systems to support all aspects of the day-to-day operations.

What You'll Need:

  • To thrive in the role, you have 3-5 years of experience in network engineering with emphasis in enterprise network monitoring and observability tools.
  • Your client-focused and collaborates with engineers, developers, and infrastructure teams to provide a reliable and dynamic set of services through an enterprise monitoring solution.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, SNMP, ICMP, etc.
  • Understanding of basic routing and interactions between routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls, and security systems.
  • Solid understanding of SNMP (all versions), NetFlow, Sflow, NMS Tools, SolarWinds Orion, StatSeeker.
  • Ability to decode and understand Wireshark captures.
  • Familiarity with Windows server and Linux OS'.
  • You're familiar with Agile approaches (e.g., SCRUM, Kanban, TDD), and methodologies.
  • You have experience and understanding of scaled agile (SAFe, LeSS, DaD) is a plus.
  • You have experience with Jenkins, Ansible, or related tools a plus.
  • You have the following certifications: ITIL, CCNA, AWS, CISSP, DOD, HP, RHCE, ITOM, ITSM, MCTS a plus.
  • You have strong analytical skills to solve large-scale problems.
  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems, or equivalent applicable experience.

The starting pay range for this position is:

$109,500.00 - $146,200.00

Additionally, for full time positions, you will be eligible to participate in our incentive program based upon the achievement of organization, team and personal performance.
