About this Job 58/50372175/ENG8/6.4.2026-SG Engineer 8- ADA of Engineering At the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), we plan, build, maintain, and protect the transportation systems that connect communities, support commerce, and keep Louisiana moving. The ADA of Engineering serves as the senior engineering authority for the District regarding Project/Program Delivery, Materials Testing, Surveying, and Utilities Coordination, providing executive support to the District Administrator in these areas

This position is in District 58 and reports to the District Administrator. Preference will be given to current DOTD employees. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following, which must include two years of experience at the supervisory level or above: Four years of licensed engineering experience; or Eight years of professional engineering experience.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience. A doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience. Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of professional engineering experience.

There is no substitution for licensed engineering experience. NOTES: Engineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience. Engineering experience gained after earning an ABET-accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer's license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience

Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.

Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties The ADA of Engineering's primary duties: Strategic Leadership: Directs a multi-disciplined team of engineering, technical, and paraprofessional staff, serving as the primary authority for workforce planning, personnel management, and policy compliance. Program & Construction Delivery: Oversees the full lifecycle of district projects, including District planning coordination, survey, plan development, utility agreements, and contract letting. Operations & Resource Management: Drives the development of strategic plans, District goals, and performance metrics while managing budget development, expenditures, and overall resource efficiency.

Stakeholder & Legal Representation: Serves as a key agency representative to elected officials, the FHWA, contractors, and the public, delivering presentations and providing expert testimony in legal proceedings. Technical & Emergency Oversight: Manages critical District functions including materials laboratory testing, public works, District permit office, utility permits/relocations, water resource engineering, and the District's Statewide Emergency Services Function (ESF-1). Position-Specific Details: Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $3,812.00/biweekly

Additional compensation may be considered with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy. Licensing Requirements: Must have a current Louisiana Professional Engineering License. Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
