The Clinical Trials Office (CTO) has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Clinical Research Operations Project Manager to join their team.
About this Opportunity
Reporting to the CTO Senior Director, the Senior Clinical Research Operations Project Manager (Project Manager) serves as a strategic leader responsible for planning, managing, and executing enterprise-level initiatives that advance clinical research program operations across UW Medicine. This role independently manages a portfolio of high-priority projects involving multiple operations units, stakeholder groups, technologies, and governance structures with the goal of enhancing efficiency, regulatory compliance, operations excellence, and research service delivery.
You will join a highly collaborative environment where your ability to connect people, data, and strategy will make an institution-wide impact. As a trusted advisor to leaders and partners, you will translate complex operational needs into clear plans, build alignment across diverse groups, and lead meaningful change.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Project Leadership - 35%
• Independently manage a portfolio of enterprise-level clinical research operational initiatives from project conception through implementation and evaluation.
• Lead highly complex projects involving multiple departments, operational units, technologies, and stakeholder groups.
• Develop project charters, business cases, governance structures, work plans, timelines, risk mitigation strategies, and implementation plans.
• Establish project priorities and ensure alignment with Clinical Trials Office and UW Medicine strategic objectives.
Governance and Stakeholder Engagement - 25%
• Facilitate institutional committees, governance groups, steering committees, and stakeholder working groups supporting clinical research operations.
• Serve as a representative of the CTO in institutional discussions related to operational strategy, process improvement, technology initiatives, and organizational change.
Strategic Planning and Organizational Change Management - 15%
• Lead organizational change initiatives associated with new policies, technologies, workflows, operational models, and strategic priorities.
• Assess change impacts and develop stakeholder engagement, communication, training, and adoption strategies.
Data Analytics, Metrics, and Performance Improvement - 15%
• Develop and maintain operational metrics, dashboards, scorecards, and reporting tools to assess organizational performance and project outcomes.
• Analyze clinical research operational data to identify trends, opportunities, risks, and areas for process improvement.
Clinical Research Operations Support - 10%
• Provide consultation and project leadership for operational initiatives across the clinical research lifecycle.
• Support implementation of new systems, technologies, and operational processes.
Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, Public Health, Clinical Research, Life Sciences, Information Systems, or a related field, plus five years of progressively responsible experience in project management, research administration, healthcare operations, or clinical research management.
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Additional Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience independently managing enterprise-level initiatives and leading organizational change initiatives.
• Experience facilitating governance committees, steering committees, or executive workgroups and successfully building consensus and influencing stakeholders without direct reporting authority.
• Experience developing operational metrics, performance dashboards, and analytic reporting, with strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams, plus project management platforms such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or Asana.
Desired Qualifications
• Master's degree in Public Health, Business Administration, Health Administration, Clinical Research, Information Management, or a related field.
• Four or more years leading complex, cross-functional projects.
• Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean, Six Sigma, Prosci, ACRP, SOCRA, or comparable certification.
• Experience with Clinical Trial Management Systems, research administration systems, enterprise reporting platforms, executive leadership support, strategic planning, or operational governance programs.
• Knowledge of FDA, NIH, OHRP, GCP, CMS, and other regulations governing clinical research.
Working Conditions
This role is designed as a hybrid position, requiring a combination of onsite and remote work. A fully remote work arrangement may be considered. Employees approved for fully remote status must maintain the ability to report onsite as needed to support project requirements and other business-related activities.
About us
The Clinical Trials Office supports the clinical research mission of UW Medicine. The CTO is an operational unit within the School of Medicine's Office of Research and Graduate Education charged with providing multi-service support to clinical researchers bringing important new therapies to patients while maintaining compliance with evolving regulatory and institutional requirements.
