Job description

Job Description: Service Engineering Manager

Position Summary

Fluke is seeking a highly capable, strategic, and hands-on Service Engineering Manager to lead a diverse and evolving engineering organization that supports global service operations. This role will provide leadership across multiple engineering disciplines, including service NPI and sustaining engineering, lab-based service manufacturing/test/DFX engineering, automation and procedure development, and the creation of PCA repair capability strategy for service.

This leader will be responsible for shaping how these teams are structured and integrated, ensuring they operate as a cohesive function that supports both new product introduction and ongoing service delivery excellence. The role requires a dynamic and transformative leader who can balance strategy with execution, build organizational capability, drive global standardization, and partner closely with service operations to ensure engineering priorities align with business and customer needs.

Based in Everett, Washington, this role is expected to be onsite at least 3 days per week and will require global travel multiple times per year to support teams, labs, and strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership & Organization Development

  • Lead a multi-functional service engineering organization supporting global service operations across multiple engineering domains.
  • Define, integrate, and evolve team structures to ensure clear ownership, strong collaboration, and effective execution across engineering workstreams.
  • Build organizational capability by hiring, developing, and coaching engineering talent across established and emerging functions.
  • Provide direction, prioritization, and leadership to globally distributed engineering resources, including direct and matrixed team members.
  • Serve as a visible and energizing leader who drives accountability, problem-solving, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Service NPI & Sustaining Engineering

  • Lead the team responsible for supporting new product introduction (NPI) into the service environment and for sustaining engineering support across the product lifecycle.
  • Ensure service engineering requirements are represented in product development processes and design teams.
  • Oversee the development of service solutions including tools, fixtures, diagnostics, workflows, documentation, calibration methods, and repair/test approaches.
  • Provide engineering support for product lifecycle changes, service readiness, serviceability improvements, and ongoing technical support for global service centers and authorized service partners.
  • Drive use of enabling technologies such as CAD, 3D printing, automation, and software tools to improve service capability and efficiency.

Lab-Based Service Manufacturing / Test / DFX Engineering

  • Lead the engineering team embedded in service lab environments that is responsible for "landing" NPIs into service operations and sustaining operational readiness throughout product lifecycles.
  • Ensure service lines, stations, cells, fixtures, and equipment are designed, maintained, standardized, and optimized to meet operational needs.
  • Drive improvements in station and cell design, setup, and global standardization across service labs.
  • Oversee engineering support for test systems, calibration software platforms, coding environments, procedures, and process controls required to maintain lab performance and quality.
  • Ensure this team serves as the primary engineering focal point for keeping service lab operations running effectively and efficiently.

PCA Repair Strategy & Capability Development

  • Define the strategy, operating model, and implementation roadmap for building PCA repair capability within the service organization.
  • Develop business cases, capability assessments, and implementation plans to justify and prioritize PCA repair investments.
  • Lead pilot projects to validate the proposed repair strategy, test operational models, and measure business outcomes prior to broader rollout.
  • Establish the future-state team structure, role requirements, and hiring plan needed to support scalable PCA repair capability.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure PCA repair strategy aligns with quality, service operations, product support, and financial objectives.

Quality Systems, Procedures & Global Standards

  • Own the development, maintenance, and global adherence of engineering-related QMS documentation supporting service operations.
  • Ensure engineering processes and documentation align with ISO 17025 requirements and support standardized execution across global service labs.
  • Oversee the creation, publication, and ongoing maintenance of procedures, work instructions, technical methods, and service documentation.
  • Ensure strong engineering discipline in documentation, validation, change control, and audit readiness.
  • Support consistent global adoption of standards, methods, and engineering best practices.

Operational Excellence & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner closely with Service Operations Management to ensure engineering teams are focused on the highest-priority business needs and are aligned to both NPI and ongoing service timelines.
  • Balance strategic initiatives with day-to-day operational needs to ensure engineering resources are focused on the right priorities at the right time.
  • Drive continuous improvement using Fluke Business System / lean principles including daily management, visual management, kaizen, KPI ownership, policy deployment, and advanced problem solving.
  • Lead or support projects that improve service efficiency, expand capability, reduce risk, improve quality, and enable scalable global execution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including service operations, metrology, quality, R&D, manufacturing engineering, and program leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related engineering discipline; equivalent technical experience may be considered.
  • 8+ years of relevant engineering experience in service engineering, test engineering, manufacturing engineering, product support engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Prior experience leading technical teams, engineering groups, or cross-functional engineering programs.
  • Strong knowledge of service environments, including new product introduction, sustaining support, diagnostics, calibration, test methods, repair processes, and lab operations.
  • Experience developing or supporting test fixtures, automation systems, engineering procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in complex, fast-paced environments with shifting priorities and global stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of quality systems and controlled documentation practices.
  • Working knowledge of metrology principles, including calibration concepts, measurement uncertainty, and accuracy requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across functions and geographies.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Everett, Washington at least 3 days per week.
  • Ability and willingness to travel globally multiple times per year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting or leading engineering functions in a service lab, calibration environment, or regulated quality environment.
  • Experience with multiple calibration software and coding platforms such as LabVIEW, Python, C#, C++, Java, Visual Basic, MET/CAL, or similar tools.
  • Experience developing business cases and leading pilot programs to validate new capabilities or operating models.
  • Experience with DFX, manufacturing/test engineering, and global standardization of equipment, stations, or workflows.
  • Familiarity with ISO 17025 and quality system requirements in calibration or technical service environments.
  • Experience supporting global service centers and/or authorized service providers.
  • Experience using CAD, 3D printing, automation tools, and digital engineering methods to improve service execution.

Leadership Profile

The ideal candidate is:

  • Energetic and dynamic, with the ability to lead in a fast-moving environment
  • Strategic and transformative, able to define and implement new engineering capabilities
  • Operationally grounded, with a practical understanding of service execution needs
  • Collaborative and influential, able to align engineering priorities with service operations and business goals
