Job Purpose and Impact
The Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for supervising an engineering team at our Eddyville, IA facility. Responsibilities will include engineering resource, talent management as well as the execution of capital projects. This person will have accountability for performance management, talent development and overall team engagement for their direct reports. The role will develop tools and practices to standardize and continuously improve engineering activities on site.
This position is also accountable for the development and execution of capital projects. Responsibilities include developing project scope, schedule, budget, resource needs and operating financials. This position is responsible for managing personnel and tasks involved in project management from project development to start-up including construction and commissioning activities.
Key Accountabilities
  • Train, develop and coach direct reports. Assess performance of direct reports and conduct performance discussions.
  • Identify development opportunities and write development plans for each direct report.
  • Allocates resources to successfully complete projects per site priorities and participate in the development of talent pipeline planning at the facility.
  • Defines and is accountable for project objectives and facilitates interactions with project, sponsor and stakeholders to ensure alignment of project objectives.
  • Defines viable alternatives to meet project objectives.
  • Develops capital budget, schedule, scope, operating costs, resource needs, and benefits for each option.
  • Performs financial analysis on each viable option and selects best option.
  • Writes commitment and charter for funding approval if appropriate.
  • Fully utilize Small Project Tool Kit, PDP, Build, and PPM processes as needed to properly execute project.
  • Generate project reports as needed to track costs and schedule.
  • Develop, review and award bid packages for labor and equipment including contract negotiations in cooperation with Procurement and company Law.
  • Develop tools, reporting mechanisms, and training to measure and assess project performance, standardize that performance, and continuously improve engineering activities at the site.
  • Work with operations to identify opportunities and support troubleshooting or resolution of plant issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, Mechanical, Biosystems Engineering or other engineering discipline or in lieu of a degree equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of four years of project engineering and/or operations
  • Working knowledge of project management practices (PDP, PPM, Build and PMG)
  • Working knowledge of food safety and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multifunctional teams and personnel.
  • Knowledge of project scheduling techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives/projects and communicate goals, objectives and accomplishments to a broad audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute large projects (nominally $5MM or more) or to manage a portfolio of projects ($2MM or more) successfully.
