Job description

More than 8,600 diverse student learners are provided an exceptional education experience throughout the district's early learning center, six elementary schools (K- Grade 5) including both French and Spanish Immersion programs, two middle schools (Grades 6-8), a high school (9-12), and the Edina Virtual Pathway online program. 

Custodian Substitute (On-Call)

Location: District Wide | Status: Non-Exempt | Schedule: Depends on Assignment, 12-Month Position


Position Summary:

The Custodian Substitute supports the school district by performing general cleaning within assigned areas, hallways, restrooms, gyms and school areas in accordance with cleaning schedules and work assignments to provide a safe, clean learning environment for students, faculty and staff.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Boiler license preferred or ability to obtain one.
  • Mechanical aptitude for performing and learning repair work
  • Custodian experience preferred, but not required.  Training will be provided.
  • Interest in working in a school district environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, employees, and visitors.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with employees.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Range: The wage for this position is $24.26

Benefits: Edina Public Schools provides eligible employees with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as flexible spending plans. All employees participate in the state's largest pension program, the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA). In addition, employees can participate in the 403(b) retirement program, with eligibility for a district match based on the terms and conditions outlined in the employee work agreement. Eligible employees also receive paid time off in accordance with the provisions outlined in the employee work agreement.
