Per Diem Telemetry Technicians are healthcare professionals who work on an as-needed basis to monitor patients' heart rhythms using specialized equipment called telemetry monitors. They typically work in hospitals or healthcare facilities, observing cardiac readings and alerting nursing or medical staff to any abnormal changes. The 'per diem' designation means they are not full-time employees but instead work flexible shifts based on the facility's needs. This role requires attention to detail, knowledge of cardiac rhythms, and strong communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a per diem telemetry technician?

To thrive as a Per Diem Telemetry Technician, you need a solid understanding of cardiac rhythms, EKG interpretation, and typically a high school diploma with completion of a telemetry or EKG certification course. Familiarity with cardiac monitoring systems and hospital electronic health record (EHR) platforms is essential. Attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to work independently are important soft skills for this role. These skills ensure timely recognition of cardiac events and effective collaboration with clinical teams to optimize patient safety.
