Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough mental health assessments for inmates, taking into account their personal history, mental health history, current issues, and suicide or self-harm risk factors.
• Collaborate with inmates to develop and manage personalized treatment plans that address their mental health challenges, encourage emotional resilience, and support their reintegration into society upon release.
• Implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and other appropriate modalities to treat a range of mental health disorders.
• Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions that enhance personal growth, emotional regulation, and coping mechanisms among inmates.
• Engage in collaborative care with psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric nurse practitioners to ensure comprehensive mental health support tailored to each inmate.
• Provide immediate crisis intervention and manage acute mental health emergencies, employing de-escalation techniques and making necessary referrals for intensive care.
• Empower inmates and their families through psychoeducation, helping them understand mental health challenges, treatment pathways, and available community resources.
• Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, treatment interventions, and progress notes, ensuring all records align with legal and ethical standards.
• Participate in regular multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to case conferences and staff development initiatives that foster continuous learning and service improvement.
• Stay current on relevant laws, regulations, and ethical practices related to mental health care in correctional systems.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The primary clientele for this role includes incarcerated individuals with varying mental health needs. You will provide care to a diverse population, requiring an understanding of various cultural backgrounds and mental health disorders, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and substance abuse issues. Your work will not only enhance mental health outcomes but also support the overall goal of reducing recidivism through effective mental health care.

Qualifications

• A Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited program.
• Current and valid Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Washington.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
• A thorough understanding of mental health issues, therapeutic interventions, and crisis management protocols.
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems and documentation requirements.

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience working in correctional facilities or with the incarcerated population is highly desirable.
• Experience in implementing evidence-based psychotherapy modalities.
• Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and managing crises within high-pressure settings.
• Knowledge of community resources available for inmates upon release.

Compensation and Benefits
