Job description

Overview

Responsibilities
  • Evaluates patients in the acute care setting and in the general med-surgical arena, under the supervision of a physician.
  • Makes patient rounds independently and with the Attending Physicians, assisting with compliance of physician/resident documentation.
  • Assist with patient/hospital charges for Physician/hospital procedures.
  • Assists in Neurosurgery cases at assigned Hospital as needed by surgeons.
  • Initiates specialty service consultations.
  • Performs a complete medical history and physical exam and records in the medical record.
  • Assist/performs therapeutic/diagnostic procedures, interpretation, teaching, admissions, in-patient case management, discharge preparation, post hospital follow-up and correspondence with referring physicians; as required for the care of the patient.
  • Administers medication including controlled substances by all routes, including pressor agents. Administers blood products.
  • Acts as a liaison/clinical consultant regarding care of the neurosurgery patient between families and physicians and multidisciplinary services including: PT, RT and Nutrition, etc.
  • Retrieves pertinent diagnostic data and arranges follow-up procedures as indicated. Assist with clinic duties as assigned by Medical Director.
  • Participates n performance Improvement activities and committees as needed.
  • Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and manner consistent with the organizations values.
  • Traiges surgery candidates in Neurosurgery clinic.
  • Performs post-op clinic visits in conjunction with surgeon.
  • Requires regular and prompt attendance and ability to work assigned schedule including overtime and call as required.
  • As Adhere to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.
  • Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.


Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant training program Required OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited institution and completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner training program Required
  • PA - Physician Assistant - Licensure with the state of Alabama to practice as a Physician Assistant within 60 Days Required or
  • CRNP - Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner and licensure with the state of Alabama as a nurse practitioner and registered nurse Upon Hire Required
  • NCCPA certification is highly Preferred
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
