How much do per diem radiologist jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 21, 2026, the average yearly pay for per diem radiologist in Raleigh, NC is $335,320.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $311,000.00 and $388,800.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is the highest paid type of radiologist?

Interventional radiologists tend to be the highest-paid radiologists due to their specialized skills in minimally invasive procedures and image-guided treatments. They often work in hospital settings and require additional training in interventional techniques, which can lead to higher compensation compared to other radiology subspecialties.

What is a Per Diem Radiologist job?

A Per Diem Radiologist is a medical professional who works on an as-needed basis, interpreting medical images like X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. Unlike full-time or part-time radiologists, per diem radiologists fill in for staff shortages, high patient volumes, or specific shifts. This role offers flexibility in scheduling but may not include benefits like health insurance or paid time off. It is ideal for radiologists seeking supplemental income, diverse work experiences, or work-life balance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Per Diem Radiologist position, and why are they important?

To excel as a Per Diem Radiologist, you need a medical degree, board certification in radiology, and strong diagnostic imaging interpretation skills. Familiarity with Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), Radiology Information Systems (RIS), and up-to-date licensure are essential. Flexibility, effective communication, and the ability to quickly adapt to different workflows and teams are valuable soft skills in this role. These qualifications ensure timely and accurate imaging assessments while supporting patient care across various healthcare settings.

What is the highest paying per diem job?

Per diem radiologists often earn higher hourly rates compared to full-time staff due to the flexibility and on-demand nature of the work. The highest-paying per diem radiology jobs typically involve subspecialties such as interventional or teleradiology, where specialized skills and 24/7 availability command premium rates. Compensation varies based on location, experience, and the complexity of cases handled.

What does a typical work schedule look like for a Per Diem Radiologist?

As a Per Diem Radiologist, your work schedule is typically flexible and variable, often based on the needs of the healthcare facility and your availability. You may be called in to cover shifts during peak volumes, staff shortages, weekends, or holidays, which can lead to irregular hours. This role usually involves interpreting diagnostic images, collaborating with referring physicians, and sometimes consulting with patients or technologists. The per diem structure offers autonomy and the ability to balance work with other professional or personal commitments, but it also requires adaptability to shifting schedules and environments.

Can I make 200k as a MRI tech?

Per Diem Radiologists and MRI technologists typically earn less than $200,000 annually; MRI tech salaries generally range from $50,000 to $80,000 per year, though experienced professionals working in high-demand areas or with specialized skills may earn higher. Achieving a $200,000 salary usually requires full-time employment, advanced certifications, or working in high-paying regions or institutions, rather than per diem or entry-level roles.

Can rad techs work per diem?

Per diem radiologists are licensed medical doctors who work on a flexible, as-needed basis, often filling in for full-time staff. Radiologic technologists (rad techs) typically work full-time or part-time positions and do not usually work per diem roles, as they are not licensed physicians. However, some facilities may offer per diem shifts for radiologic technologists depending on staffing needs and certifications such as ARRT.
