These roles often exist in industries like healthcare, hospitality, or security, where 24-hour staffing is required. Per diem workers are typically called in to fill gaps due to staff shortages, increased demand, or employee absences. The flexibility allows workers to choose shifts that fit their availability, but hours and income can vary. Compensation for overnight shifts is often higher due to the non-traditional hours.
