The RN First Assistant (RNFA) renders direct patient care as part of the perioperative role by assisting the surgeon in the surgical treatment of the patient. The responsibility of functioning as first assistant must be based on documented knowledge and skills acquired after specialized preparation, formal instruction and supervised practice.
Job Description:
* This per diem RNFA position includes required participation in call coverage to support emergency surgical needs, including stat C sections for rural hospital. The RNFA must be able to respond within 30 minutes when activated and will be scheduled for call one to three nights per week from 1715 to 0645 and one weekend per month from Friday at 1715 through Monday at 0645. To support consistency and work life balance, this role may include a set number of guaranteed daytime hours.
EDUCATION
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Must have completed a Registered Nurse First Assistant Program

EXPERIENCE Required:
  • Three years of experience as RN in the Operating Room encompassing both the circulator and the scrub roles.

LICENSURES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Registered Nurse - State Licensure - RN
  • Certified Operating Room RN - CNOR is required.
  • BLS and ACLS is required.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Validation of the necessary clinical skills by an internship with a member of the surgical staff as mentor.
  • Annual peer review by a physician surgeon and evaluation by the Surgery Department Director.
