RN - Operating Room - Per Diem (Days)
Position Summary
The Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. The RN functions as the circulator in the operating room, ensuring patient safety, maintaining sterile technique, coordinating care among the surgical team, and delivering care throughout the perioperative experience. The RN is responsible for patient assessment, documentation, communication with physicians and surgical staff, and responding appropriately to changes in patient condition.
Key Responsibilities
  • Function as the circulating RN during surgical procedures in accordance with established perioperative standards.
  • Perform preoperative patient assessments and verify surgical consents, documentation, and procedural readiness.
  • Coordinate patient care throughout the perioperative experience and maintain patient safety.
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Maintain sterile technique and ensure compliance with infection prevention and safety protocols.
  • Prepare operating rooms, equipment, and supplies for scheduled and emergent procedures.
  • Monitor patients during procedures and respond appropriately to changes in condition.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in patient transfers, handoff communication, and postoperative care coordination.
  • Assist with equipment checks, room turnover, and supply management.
  • Participate in standby and call coverage as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties within the RN scope of practice as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current and unencumbered California RN License.
  • Current BLS (AHA) certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Operating Room experience as a Circulator RN.
  • Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing standards, sterile technique, and surgical safety practices.
Shift Details
  • Monday-Friday, 8-hour day shifts.
  • Varied start times between 0700-1530.
  • Standby/call required: approximately 2 days per week.
    • Weekday call: 16 hours.
    • Weekend call: 24 hours.
  • Two weekends of call per month.
