Per Diem Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
Position Highlights:
  • Position: Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA)
  • Location: Elmhurst Hospital, Elmhurst, IL
  • Full Time/Part Time: Per diem
  • Hours: unit staffed 24/7, hours flexible
  • Required Travel: n/a
  • The hourly pay range listed above notes the minimum and max within the job code, however, all per diem hours will be paid at a flat rate of $90 an hour for this per diem role.

Elmhurst Hospital is a Level IIe Special Care Nursery with over 3000 annual births. Our special care nursery provides private rooms for term infants need of transitional as well as long term care for late preterm infants. The Department of Neonatology is currently seeking a Neonatal Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who will work collaboratively with a neonatologist, as well as independently. The position utilizes critical judgement in the performance of delivery room resuscitation, common newborn diagnosis and management, as well as specialized long term care for late preterm infants . This individual will function autonomously, as well as a collaborating member of the neonatal interdisciplinary care team.
What you will need:
  • License: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensure in the State of IL required; Federal DEA and Illinois Controlled Substance License required
  • Education: Completion of accredited pediatric residency or Master's level program in specialty area
  • Certification: BLS for Healthcare Provider and NRP certifications required.
  • Certification in specialty: American Board of Pediatrics eligible, NCC certification as Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. Certificate of completion from neonatal PA fellowship
  • Experience: 5+ years of IP Newborn (preferred) or Pediatric, Immediate Care or Pediatric ED experience highly preferred

Special Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Newborn airway management including intubation
  • Central line placement (umbilical and PCVC)
  • Newborn chest tube placement

Equipment Utilized within the Scope of the Position:
  • Stethoscope
  • Monitors
  • Small baby equipment
  • Flow inflating bag
  • Ventilators - (HFJV, HFOV, cMV, NIMV, iNO, etc)
  • Sterile procedures
  • Therapeutic hypothermia

What you will do:
Under the supervision of a physician:
  • Providing appropriate medical care to newborn patients L&D, newborn nursery, and intensive care unit during his/her scheduled shift.
  • Ensuring that an adequate medical record is maintained for each patient seen and treated during his/her shift
  • Provides appropriate procedural tasks as needed (PPV, intubation, central lines, chest tubes, etc).
  • Participating in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care.
  • Collaborating in the development, review and evaluation of policies and procedures.
  • Participating in developing and implementing QI monitoring.
  • Acting as a resource for clinical skills for staff
  • Understanding the opportunity to participate in clinical research
