What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Per Diem Clinic RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Per Diem Clinic RN, you need a current RN license, clinical expertise in outpatient care, and the ability to quickly adapt to different clinical environments. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, basic diagnostic equipment, and sometimes certifications like BLS or ACLS are typically required. Strong communication, flexibility, and the ability to work independently are standout soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure safe, efficient patient care and allow the RN to seamlessly integrate into varying teams on short notice.

How does scheduling typically work for a Per Diem Clinic RN, and what level of flexibility can I expect?

As a Per Diem Clinic RN, your schedule is generally more flexible compared to full-time or part-time roles. You may have the ability to choose shifts based on your availability or respond to staffing needs as they arise, which is ideal for nurses seeking work-life balance or supplementary income. However, this flexibility can come with varying hours week-to-week and less predictability, so it's important to be adaptable. Per Diem nurses are often called upon to fill in during busy periods, staff shortages, or employee absences, so strong communication with the scheduling coordinator is key.

What is a Per Diem Clinic RN?

A Per Diem Clinic RN is a registered nurse who works on an as-needed basis in a clinic setting, rather than having a regular, full-time schedule. These nurses provide patient care, assist physicians, and perform nursing duties during shifts that may vary week to week. Per diem positions offer flexibility and are often used to cover staff shortages, vacations, or increased patient volume. This role requires the same qualifications and licensure as other registered nursing positions, but with more flexible scheduling.
