OFFICE OF AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

DEFINITION: To provide professional legal counsel to the Director of Labor & Employee Relations and staff on human resource matters.
NOTE: The definition and examples of work for this title are for illustrative purposes only. A particular position using this title may not perform all duties listed in this job specification. Conversely, all duties performed on the job may not be listed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Admission to practice law in the State of New Jersey.
2. Proficiency with legal research and writing
3. Five or more years of experience in the practice of law, specifically with providing legal guidance on human resource issues and workplace investigations.
4. Strong understanding of federal and state labor and employment laws and HR issues, including pay equity, employee privacy, Affirmative Action and EEO investigations, employee recruitment/hiring/onboarding, progressive discipline and terminations, leaves of absence (FMLA, NJ FLA, Military Leaves, etc.), workplace accommodations, Title VII, CEPA, NJ LAD.
5. Experience with the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Rules and Regulations.
6. Working knowledge of federal and state laws applicable to school districts in New Jersey.
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Renders oral and written legal advice and guidance on human resource issues and workplace investigations to the Director of Labor & Employee Relations and staff.
2. Prepares formal legal memoranda and opinions, briefs, and legal correspondence for signature by the Director of Labor & Employee Relations.
REPORTS TO: Director of Labor & Employee Relations
SALARY EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION
1. Salary: Hourly compensation will be commensurate with education and
legal experience.
2. Employment Period: Twelve Month, approximately 10-15 hours per week.
3. Union Affiliation: Unaffiliated
