What is a per diem aerial foreman?

A Per Diem Aerial Foreman is a supervisory professional in the utility or construction industry who oversees crews working on aerial projects, such as power line installation or maintenance. 'Per diem' means they are paid a daily allowance, often for travel or living expenses while working away from home. The Aerial Foreman ensures that all safety and quality standards are met, coordinates crew activities, and acts as a liaison between workers and management. This role requires technical expertise in aerial work, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage projects efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a per diem aerial foreman?

To thrive as a Per Diem Aerial Foreman, you need strong knowledge of aerial construction, electrical systems, and OSHA safety standards, typically supported by prior lineman or foreman experience. Familiarity with equipment such as bucket trucks, safety harnesses, and relevant software for reporting and job tracking is essential. Leadership, effective communication, and problem-solving are vital soft skills for coordinating crews and ensuring worksite safety. These skills ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry regulations.

How does the schedule and workflow typically differ for a per diem aerial foreman compared to full-time positions?

As a Per Diem Aerial Foreman, your schedule is generally project-based and can vary significantly depending on the needs of the employer and the specific job site. Unlike full-time roles with set hours, per diem positions often require flexibility to accommodate peak workloads, emergency repairs, or unexpected outages. You may be called in for short-term assignments or specific projects, and your workflow will usually involve leading aerial crews, coordinating with project managers, and ensuring safety compliance. This structure offers variety and autonomy, but can also present challenges in terms of job stability and predictability.
