Job description

Technical Director - Radio Shop Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (on-call for emergencies)
Have you led P25 or trunked radio systems that Police, Fire, and 911 rely on every second? Now take ownership of the network that keeps first responders connected when it matters most.
This role leads the systems behind Police, Fire, and emergency communications across Fort Wayne and Allen County. You'll be responsible for reliability, compliance, and long-term direction of a regional public safety radio system.
What You'll Do
Oversee and lead the City's public safety radio infrastructure, ensuring systems are stable, compliant, and prepared for future growth.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise Radio Shop staff, including hiring, training, and performance management
  • Direct operation, maintenance, and expansion of P25 and trunked radio systems
  • Serve as system manager for the Consolidated Communications Partnership (CCP)
  • Manage FCC licensing and coordinate with City, County, State, and mutual aid partners
  • Oversee vendor relationships, contracts, and system upgrades

What You Bring | Education & Experience
  • Experience with public safety radio systems (Police, Fire, 911 environments)
  • Strong working knowledge of P25, trunked radio systems, RF principles, and FCC regulations
  • Leadership experience overseeing technical teams or system operations
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or related field, or equivalent experience

Preferred Certifications
  • FCC General Radiotelephone License
  • CETa Certification
  • Motorola / ASTRO system certifications
