Job description

Are you looking for an opportunity to join a vibrant school community of kind, curious students and families and the chance to work alongside talented, dedicated colleagues? If so, The Pegasus School is the place for you!

As we prepare for the 2026-2027 school year, we are searching for a teacher assistant to support our Reading Specialist and Health Office. This is a full-time, ten-month, hourly, non-exempt position. Hours vary by assignment, and typically range between 7 and 7.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday. The start date for this position is August 19, 2026.

Teacher assistants provide support to teachers and students in grades PK-8. Examples of essential duties include supporting classroom instruction, working with small groups of students, and assisting with general clerical tasks. In addition to classroom support, teaching assistants are also responsible for student supervision during non-instructional times such as lunch, recess, morning arrival, and afternoon dismissal.

This position also provides daily support to the School Nurse by assisting with the operation of the Health Office. Responsibilities include welcoming and checking in students with minor illnesses or injuries, providing basic comfort and care under the direction of the School Nurse, maintaining health office records and supplies, and assisting with routine administrative tasks. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with children in a caring, calm, and confidential manner. Experience or knowledge of Google Workspace for Education is preferred.

Teaching assistant positions at Pegasus are ideal for someone in the early stages of their teaching career or someone considering a career in education or a related field. These positions allow those with limited experience the opportunity to build their resumes, be mentored by veteran teachers, and observe various classrooms at the school. The Pegasus School serves 595 students from Pre-K through eighth grade.

The school is situated in a park-like 14-acre setting in Huntington Beach with facilities that include a theater, gymnasium, art studios, science and technology labs, library, and classrooms. The Pegasus School is an environment that encourages creative and critical thinking, risk taking, and problem solving in all members of its community.

Teacher assistants work 175 days per school year, on average. Pegasus employees enjoy a competitive employee benefits program including medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement plan contributions, voluntary supplemental life insurance, as well as reimbursement of continuing education costs following one year of service.
