Job description

Nemours is seeking an Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Nemours Childrenโ€™s Health team in Wilmington, DE.

The Pediatric Allergy/Immunology Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant delivers comprehensive independent and collaborative care as an integral member of the Allergy/Immunology team in Wilmington Delaware. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will play a key role in the development of an Oral Immunotherapy (OIT) program in Wilmington, DE. A majority of clinical time will be dedicated towards oral immunotherapy treatment. Additionally, they will be delivering outpatient care for pediatric patients requiring diagnosis, evaluation, and management of other Allergy/Immunology concerns.

Essential Functions
  • Practices collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers to provide high quality health care to children.
  • Performs appropriate assessment of patient/family upon referral/admission.
  • Performs ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient progress and revision of interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • May use prescriptive authority if appropriately credentialed to do so.Collaborates inter-professionally as needed. Identifies patient/family need for further resources and initiates appropriate referrals.
  • Assists the Staff Nurse in formulating the Nursing Care Plan and setting priorities based on the needs of patient and family.
  • Documents patient care and progress on patient's chart.
  • Coordinates Nursing Plan for Discharge in collaboration with the Staff Nurse and other members of the health care team.
  • Provides patient/family teaching based on identification of learning needs.
  • Evaluates compliance with the prescribed treatment regimen through telephone calls and family/patient assessments and outpatient Telehealth visits as needed.
  • Acts as a patient's advocate.
  • Acts as a role model to other members of the Nursing Department to foster professional development.
  • Acts as a liaison between families and members of the health care team.
  • Utilizes advanced knowledge and specialized skill in nursing practice in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and protocol.
  • Promotes standards of care for the specialty area.
  • Identifies educational needs of nursing staff regarding the care of patients in the specialty area. Serves as an educational resource for unit and the Organization.
  • Collaborates with nursing management in the monitoring and evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of patient care within the specialty area.
  • Fosters a spirit of inquiry, identifies nursing problems, and participates in research endeavors.
  • Disseminates nursing research findings and incorporates these findings into nursing practices for patient care within the specialty area.
  • Serves as a consultant within specialty area for colleagues both intra and extra departmentally and in the community.
  • Maintains a current knowledge base through participation in appropriate professional activities and organizations.
  • Assess own strengths and weaknesses, identifies resources for professional growth and utilizes these resources to promote professional growth.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills with health care team and patient, family, and members of the health care team.
  • Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all age groups, neonates, infants, toddlers, school aged, adolescents and adults.
Qualifications
  • MSN/DNP: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or MSc Physician Assistant
  • Active Delaware/Multistate Registered Nurse Licensure required.
  • Active Delaware Advanced Practice Nurse Licensure with prescriptive authority required, OR Active Physician Assistant License
  • Delaware CSR
  • Federal DEA registration with Delaware Address
  • Current certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
  • BLS required
  • Additional state licensure and DEA applications may be required.
  • One to three years of experience required; pediatric experience preferred
