What does a pediatric neuropsychologist do?
What does a pediatric neuropsychologist do?
As a pediatric neuropsychologist, you work to assess a child and help determine whether or not they have a neurodevelopmental disorder or another condition that affects the function of their brain. This is a highly specialized field of psychology that focuses on diagnosing conditions, but not on prescribing medications to children. Many pediatric neuropsychologists work alongside schools to help evaluate students and determine whether or not they need academic assistance while others work independently and have little or no direct interaction with schools. Many pediatric neuropsychologists work extended hours and evaluations can take as long as 12 hours, so you may only see one or two patients each day.

Pediatric Neuropsychologist – $115K–$250K+ Potential | Pasadena, CA
Work alongside a practice owner who is a co-author of a nationally recognized book on child development and emotional well-being. This is a unique opportunity to learn from and collaborate with an experienced thought leader whose work has helped shape how clinicians understand children, relationships, and the developing brain.
You'll have access to meaningful mentorship, case consultation, team discussions, and interdisciplinary learning while growing your clinical approach alongside experts in the field.
Role Overview
Join a collaborative pediatric practice as a Pediatric Neuropsychologist focused primarily on comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations for children and adolescents ages 3–18.
This role is ideal for a clinician who enjoys assessment but also values understanding the whole child and family system. Evaluations consider cognitive and academic functioning alongside family dynamics, relationships, sensory needs, educational environments, and emotional well-being.
The practice takes an interdisciplinary approach, collaborating closely with speech, occupational therapy, mental health, educational therapy, and other providers.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: Approximately $115k+
- Typical total compensation: $115,000 with a lower full-time caseload
- High-volume earning potential: $250,000+ possible
- Volume-based bonuses
- Anthem PPO health insurance
- Relocation assistance may be available
- Primarily private-pay practice
- Flexible opportunities to incorporate therapy, parent coaching, school meetings, and follow-up services based on interests
What Makes This Role Stand Out
- Pediatric-focused assessment: Evaluate children and adolescents with presentations including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other learning disorders.
- Relational approach: Look beyond test scores to understand family systems, attachment, peer relationships, sensory differences, and the child's broader environment.
- True interdisciplinary collaboration: Work alongside neuropsychology, speech, OT, mental health, educational therapy, and other specialists.
- Clinical flexibility: Assessment is the primary focus, with opportunities to incorporate therapy, parent coaching, school consultation, and follow-up care.
- Strong clinical support: Collaborate with the assessment division director and other neuropsychologists through case consultation, team meetings, trainings, and ongoing support.
- Meaningful recommendations: Create individualized plans that connect assessment findings to practical educational, family, therapeutic, and clinical recommendations.
- Flexible schedule: Clinicians generally work approximately 9:30/10:00 AM–4:30/5:00 PM. Weekend work is optional if a candidate desires.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive pediatric neuropsychological evaluations.
- Write detailed evaluation reports.
- Provide diagnostic impressions and recommendations.
- Consult with parents, teachers, schools, therapists, and outside specialists.
- Coordinate recommendations with in-house treatment providers when appropriate.
- Participate in occasional school meetings, parent coaching, follow-up visits, or therapy based on clinical interest.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to ensure assessment findings translate into meaningful treatment and educational support.
Qualifications
Required:PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychology
- Specialized training in pediatric neuropsychology
- Pediatric-focused or lifespan neuropsychology training with a strong pediatric emphasis
- Two years of neuropsychology-focused postdoctoral fellowship training required
- Internship and postdoctoral training consistent with Houston Conference guidelines and Minnesota Conference Guidelines
- APA-accredited internship and postdoctoral training
- California licensure or active progress toward California licensure
- Openness to incorporating a family systems and relational perspective into assessment
Preferred:
- Understanding of OT and sensory differences
- Experience with play-based or child-led approaches
- Interest in therapy or parent coaching
Hiring Timeline
Immediate need. The team is prepared to move quickly with qualified candidates.
Second-year postdoctoral candidates who are expected to complete training and pursue California licensure in the coming months may also be considered.
Why Join?
This is an opportunity to practice pediatric neuropsychology in an environment where assessment goes beyond a diagnostic label. The team considers the child, family, school, relationships, sensory needs, and broader support system when developing recommendations-while giving clinicians the flexibility and interdisciplinary support to provide thoughtful, meaningful care.
Applications are reviewed daily. We can't wait to get to know you!
