What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Pcb Layout Engineer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a PCB Layout Engineer, you need a strong background in electronics engineering, PCB design principles, and circuit analysis, typically supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with industry-standard PCB design tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, or Mentor Graphics, along with knowledge of IPC standards and design for manufacturability, is crucial. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are key soft skills that set candidates apart. These competencies are vital for ensuring reliable, manufacturable designs that meet project requirements and support seamless collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

What does a PCB Layout Engineer do?

A PCB Layout Engineer designs and develops printed circuit board (PCB) layouts for electronic systems, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and manufacturability. They work with schematic diagrams, component placements, and routing to create efficient designs that meet electrical and mechanical requirements. Using software tools like Altium Designer, OrCAD, or Eagle, they optimize signal integrity, thermal management, and design rule compliance. PCB Layout Engineers collaborate with hardware engineers, manufacturers, and quality teams to refine designs before production. Their work is critical in industries like consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace, and telecommunications.

What are some typical challenges faced by PCB Layout Engineers, and how can I prepare for them?

PCB Layout Engineers often encounter challenges such as managing complex design constraints, ensuring signal integrity, meeting tight deadlines, and coordinating requirements from multiple stakeholders. Preparing for these challenges involves staying updated with the latest design tools, understanding manufacturing capabilities and standards, and developing strong troubleshooting abilities. Proactively communicating with electrical engineers, mechanical designers, and manufacturing teams can help address issues early in the design process. About AUO Mobility Solutions

AUO Mobility Solutions Corporation America is a spin-off from AUO focused on the rapidly evolving mobility industry. We develop smart cockpit and automotive display technologies that power the next generation of vehicles.

As the industry shifts toward electrification and software-defined vehicles, we work across the mobility ecosystem to connect hardware, software, and system integration for advanced in-vehicle experiences.

Our solutions include display HMI systems, smart cockpit platforms, and integrated mobility technologies developed with global automotive partners.

We are committed to building a human-centered mobility experienceโ€”making transportation smarter, safer, and more connected through continuous innovation.

Why this role matters

Design the display systems that drivers interact with every day. Join AUO Mobility Solutions and contribute to production automotive programs for leading OEMs. You will drive hardware development across the full lifecycleโ€”from concept through launchโ€”while working in close partnership with global engineering teams in Asia and North America.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive design and integration of display hardware systems (MCU, timing controllers, SerDes, power architectures) in collaboration with global engineering teams
  • Lead bring-up activities including schematic capture, PCB layout, debugging, and SI/PI analysis
  • Perform detailed circuit analysis (worst-case, signal integrity, power integrity)
  • Debug complex hardware issues and lead root cause analysis with cross-functional and global teams
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Software, Manufacturing, and Program Management teams
  • Support product launches and resolve production and field issues
  • Participate in customer design reviews and provide technical recommendations
  • Support DFMEA/PFMEA activities and incorporate lessons learned
  • Contribute to strengthening the local supplier ecosystem
Requirements:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (Masterโ€™s preferred)
  • 5+ years of hardware design experience, preferably automotive display systems
  • Strong background in circuit design, PCB development, SI/PI analysis
  • Experience with display subsystems (MCU, timing controller, SerDes, power circuits)
  • Familiarity with TFT-LCD operation
  • Experience with SerDes, power electronics, and embedded architectures
  • Knowledge of automotive EMC standards
  • Proficiency with lab equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, soldering tools)
  • Familiarity with ASPICE and V-model development processes
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a globally distributed engineering environment

Benefits

We offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package designed to support employees and their families:

  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their dependents
  • Choice of three Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) medical plans, including a High Deductible Health Plan with Health Savings Account (HSA) and company contributions
  • Company-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance
