Pcb Design Internship information

What is a pcb design internship?

A PCB Design Internship is a temporary position where students or entry-level engineers learn and gain hands-on experience in designing Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). Interns typically work under the guidance of experienced engineers to create schematics, design layouts, and test circuits using CAD tools like Altium Designer or Eagle. They may also assist in prototyping, debugging, and collaborating with other teams to ensure functional PCB designs. This internship helps build essential skills in electronics design, manufacturing processes, and industry standards.

What are some typical daily tasks and responsibilities for a pcb design intern?

As a PCB Design Intern, your daily work will often involve assisting with schematic capture, laying out printed circuit boards, and reviewing design files for manufacturing readiness. You may work closely with engineers to implement design changes, participate in team meetings, and research best practices or components. Collaboration with hardware and test engineers is common, and you may be expected to support prototype assembly or testing activities. This role provides a hands-on learning environment that helps build practical skills for a career in electronics design.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the pcb design internship position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a PCB Design Intern, you need a foundation in electronics theory, circuit analysis, and a relevant engineering or technical degree in progress. Familiarity with industry-standard PCB design software such as Altium Designer, Eagle, or KiCad is typically required, and completion of relevant coursework or training is valued. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills are important soft skills for this role. These competencies enable accurate, efficient design work and smooth collaboration within engineering teams.

(ASRI) is recruiting for the Redstone Test and Engineering Services (RTES) contract in support of the Redstone Test Center mission to provide superior technical expertise conducting tests, analyzing the results, and reporting the results on systems, subsystems, and components related to aviation, missile, and sensor platforms.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

Months/Years of Experience: Zero to three (0–3) years of experience performing engineering duties related to the design, analysis, integration, testing, or sustainment of mechanical or electrical systems. Internship, cooperative education, or research experience in an engineering environment is acceptable.

Required Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen and have or be able to obtain a DoD security clearance. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively communicate technical information both verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Desired Qualifications: Experience with mechanical or electrical design principles, test equipment, instrumentation, or system integration. Familiarity with engineering software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar design and analysis tools. Experience with programming or scripting languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ is desirable. Knowledge of telemetry, instrumentation, missile systems, data acquisition, or test and evaluation is a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and technical documentation.

Duties: Design, develop and test analog and digital circuits for high vibe, acoustic, temp and EMI environments. Create and manage PCB layouts, schematics, and fabrication files using EDA/CAD software (e.g., Altium Designer, AutoCAD Design etc.). Collaborate with the team to develop and refine requirements. Conduct design reviews and simulations to ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements. Develop and execute test plans for validating and debugging prototypes and production hardware. Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, test procedures, and reports. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical/mechanical issues in existing products. Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices and engineering design.

Comments: Compliance with health mandates as dictated by the contract may be required as a condition of employment. Employees are subject to drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment.
