Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced PACU RN for a 13-week travel contract at a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital, requiring Epic proficiency and advanced critical care skills across a diverse surgical patient population.

  • Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) in a 703-bed acute care Magnet-designated teaching hospital affiliated with a medical school
  • Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric) with advanced specialty care and a dedicated children's hospital
  • Diverse patient population spanning infants, adolescents, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Surgical specialties covered include ICU, trauma, pediatrics, bariatrics, breast, colorectal, dental, emergency general, ENT, gastroenterology, gynecology, gynecologic oncology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, podiatry, pulmonology, and urology
  • Night shift: 4x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
  • On-call rotation shared with staff, assigned via sign-up sheet
  • One holiday shift required per 13-week contract
  • Floating required within skillset
  • Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
  • Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
  • Prior PACU experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
  • IV therapy skills required: blood product administration, central/PICC line care, and IV starts
  • Respiratory care skills required: ventilated patients, chest tubes, airway management, tracheostomy, extubation, and End-Tidal CO2 monitoring
  • Neuro skills required: craniotomy, external ventricular drain (EVD) care, spine surgery, and stroke scale assessment
  • Cardiac skills required: antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, vasopressors, opioids, reversal agents, arterial line management, dysrhythmia management, and CPR
  • Surgical experience required across ENT, general, neuro, ortho, total joints, cholecystectomy, and spinal procedures
  • Monitoring and assessment skills: lab values, isolation precautions, malignant hyperthermia, pain management, PCA, and RASS
  • Pediatric patient management experience required
  • Pre/post-op skills required: EKG, consent processes, cath/endoscopy/operative procedures, and straight catheterization (male and female)
  • Must provide a copy of driver's license and Social Security card for consideration
  • Two professional references required for consideration

  • Provides post-anesthesia recovery care to a broad surgical patient population across numerous specialty service lines
  • Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center, reflecting the hospital's high-acuity specialty care environment
