What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a PC-DMIS Programmer, and why are they important?

To excel as a PC-DMIS Programmer, you need a solid background in metrology, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and experience in quality control, often supported by relevant engineering or technical education. Expertise in using PC-DMIS software, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), and proficiency with CAD systems are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective problem-solving skills help you interpret blueprints and troubleshoot measurement issues. These skills ensure accurate part inspection, maintain quality standards, and support efficient manufacturing processes.

What is the difference between Pc Dmis Programmer vs CNC Programmer?

AspectPc Dmis ProgrammerCNC Programmer
CredentialsTypically requires CAD/CAM software knowledge, technical training, and sometimes certifications in metrology or programmingRequires knowledge of CNC machine operation, G-code programming, and often certifications in machining or manufacturing
Work EnvironmentWorks in manufacturing or engineering settings, often with coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and CAD softwareWorks directly with CNC machines in machine shops or manufacturing plants
Industry UsageCommonly used in precision manufacturing, aerospace, and automotive industries for programming and measurementUsed across various manufacturing sectors for creating and editing machine code for production

The main difference is that a Pc Dmis Programmer specializes in programming using CMM software like PC-DMIS for measurement and quality control, while a CNC Programmer focuses on creating and editing machine code for CNC machines. Both roles require technical skills but serve different functions within manufacturing processes.

What are some common challenges faced by PC-DMIS Programmers when working with complex parts or tight tolerances?

PC-DMIS Programmers often encounter challenges when programming coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) for parts with intricate geometries or extremely tight tolerances. These challenges include accurately interpreting engineering drawings, optimizing probing paths to avoid collisions, and ensuring measurement routines are both efficient and precise. Collaboration with engineers and machinists is crucial to clarify specifications and resolve ambiguities. Staying organized and detail-oriented helps programmers deliver reliable inspection programs that support high-quality manufacturing.

What is a PC-DMIS Programmer?

A PC-DMIS Programmer is a professional who specializes in using PC-DMIS software to create, edit, and run measurement programs for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). They translate engineering drawings and CAD models into automated inspection routines to ensure parts meet precise specifications. PC-DMIS Programmers are essential in quality control for manufacturing industries, as they help verify product accuracy and compliance with standards. Their expertise ensures that products are measured efficiently and accurately, helping to maintain high quality in production processes.

Job description

**Job Summary

**

Our company is where tight tolerances meet real purpose. We produce flight-critical precision components for the most demanding programs in the aerospace industry — including active launch vehicle programs with leading Tier 1 aerospace OEMs. If you take pride in doing inspection work that actually matters, you'll find your people here. We are seeking an experienced CMM Programmer who brings deep PC-DMIS expertise, sharp GD&T instincts, and the kind of ownership mindset that keeps production moving without cutting corners. This role operates at the intersection of programming, inspection, and shop-floor collaboration — with direct impact on first article, in process, and final acceptance outcomes.

We operate in accordance with ITAR regulations as administered by U.S. State Department. All employees must be US persons as defined by ITAR.

Equal Opportunity Employer

**Why work for us

**

This isn't a job where you show up to stamp parts. You'll be programming CMM routines for complex aerospace geometries, working directly with machinists and programmers to solve tolerance challenges, and building the inspection infrastructure that backs our quality system. Our shop is growing — and the people who shape that growth are the ones who bring both skill and initiative.

  • Work on programs that reach orbit — active production for leading aerospace OEM launch vehicle programs

  • Modern metrology equipment including Zeiss CMMs running Calypso and PC-DMIS platforms

  • Lean, collaborative environment where your input is heard at every level, including the executive team

  • AS9100-certified QMS with a culture of continuous improvement, not checkbox compliance

Competitive compensation with room to grow as the business scales

**Supervisory Responsibilities:

**

  • None.

**

**

**

**

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities - What you'll own:

**

**

**

**CMM Programming & Inspection

**

  • Develop, validate, and maintain CMM programs for complex machined parts using PC-DMIS, working from 2D drawings and 3D CAD models

  • Execute layout (first-piece buy-off), in-process, and final inspection with precision and repeatability

  • Perform handheld inspection using micrometers, calipers, height gages, pin gages, thread gages, comparators, and radius pins

  • Design and specify fixturing requirements for CMM applications; engage Manufacturing Engineering to fabricate work-holding solutions

**First Article & Quality Support

**

  • Lead or support First Article Inspections (FAIs) from initial setup through customer-deliverable reporting

  • Generate clear, complete inspection reports for internal review and direct customer submission

  • Develop inspection methods, tool maps, and in-process check plans in collaboration with the quality team

  • Maintain SPC measurement cadence and keep records current and audit-ready

**Equipment & Standards Stewardship

**

  • Manage CMM probe qualifications, machine calibration schedules, and preventive maintenance logs

  • Calibrate shop gages (pins, calipers, mics, height gages, thread gages) to traceable standards

  • Actively contribute to the QMS and quality objectives; engage in corrective action programs for non conforming parts

  • Recommend measuring instruments and process improvements aligned with customer and AS9100 requirements

**Shop Floor Collaboration

**

  • Partner with machinists, shop leads, and NC programmers to troubleshoot complex part features and measurement challenges

  • Communicate proactively with leadership on inspection status, non-conformances, and capacity
