Job Opportunity

Sheriff's Security Officers assist sworn personnel in providing security and guarding County property and properties of public agencies against fire, theft, vandalism, and trespassing. These are non-peace officer positions. You may be required by the Sheriff to carry a firearm. You must exercise independent judgment and distinguish between circumstances in which counseling, admonition, and explanation will serve to maintain a peaceful environment or where the intervention of law enforcement personnel is necessary and respond to and/or report situations appropriately.

Qualifications include graduation from high school or satisfactory completion of an acceptable General Education Development Test (GED). A certificate demonstrating satisfactory completion of a POST course on PC 832 (arrest and firearms training) within six (6) months of appointment is required. Completion of a basic law enforcement academy may be substituted for the PC 832 certificate. A valid Class C California driver's license is also required. A Peace Officer Standard & Training (POST) background investigation is required prior to the start of employment.

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County. The County observes twelve (12) full day fixed and two (2) half day fixed paid holidays per year. Additionally, employees in this bargaining unit receive two (2) floating paid holiday(s) per year. Vacation is accrued at approximately ten (10) days per year for the first three (3) years. Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year. Effective July 1 of each year, 80 hours of administrative leave is granted. Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.
