Job description

Description:Scali Insurance Group (SIG) is a national insurance holding company with more than 50 agency partners across 22 states and a growth pace of 12–15 new agency acquisitions per year. Headquartered in Scottsdale, AZ, SIG brings independent agencies together under a shared enterprise model, combining the strength of a national organization with the character of local agency cultures.
Our Payroll & HR Department plays a central role in every new partnership. We are often the first department new team members hear from, and we take that responsibility seriously.
We are seeking a Payroll Processor to join our growing team. In this role, they will support multi-state payroll processing for SIG’s expanding portfolio of agencies, assist with onboarding new agency teams onto Paylocity, and serve as a reliable resource for employees and agency partners across the country. This role offers exposure to multi-entity payroll operations, compliance across 22+ states, and ongoing coordination with internal teams and agency leadership. The role supports the Payroll Manager and does not carry independent authority over payroll approval, funding, or final compliance sign-off.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Support the Payroll Manager in processing bi-weekly and semi-monthly multi-state payroll for 50+ agency entities using
  • Paylocity
  • Review and reconcile timekeeping data, PTO, bonuses, commissions, and payroll adjustments before each payroll run
  • Assist with verifying accurate application of federal, state, and local tax withholdings across active jurisdictions
  • Review payroll registers, identify discrepancies, and escalate issues for resolution prior to payroll funding
  • Support setup of new agency entities in Paylocity as part of acquisition onboarding activities
  • Assist with migrating employee records, pay structures, and deduction codes for incoming agency teams
  • Participate in onboarding calls with new agency partners and team members to explain payroll processes and timelines
  • Maintain accurate employee data in the HRIS throughout the employee lifecycle
  • Support compliance with multi-state wage and hour requirements, including state-specific overtime, break, and final paycheck rules
  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation, reconciliation, and distribution
  • Support quarterly and annual payroll tax filings, unemployment claims, wage verification requests, and payroll-related audits, escalating complex cases as needed
  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee payroll questions and partner with agency managers to resolve issues accurately and respectfully
Requirements:

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work carefully within established payroll procedures, compliance requirements, and reporting timelines
  • Strong follow-through on recurring processes that require accuracy, documentation, and consistency
  • Clear and professional communication when supporting employees, agency managers, and onboarding partners
  • Comfort balancing detailed payroll work with regular coordination across teams
  • Working knowledge of federal and multi-state payroll tax regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including reconciliation work and functions such as pivot tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
  • Experience using Paylocity or a comparable HRIS/payroll platform
  • Ability to handle confidential payroll and employee information with discretion

Other Requirements:

  • 2–4 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-entity or multi-state environment
  • Experience supporting payroll in a fast-paced, high-volume setting with firm deadlines
  • Hybrid work schedule based in Scottsdale, AZ, after training
  • Preferred: experience supporting payroll for insurance agencies or financial services firms
  • Preferred: familiarity with payroll onboarding during company acquisitions or mergers
  • Preferred: experience working in a multi-state environment spanning 10+ states
  • Preferred: FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation

Compensation: $58,000 – $70,000 annually. This range reflects the compensation we genuinely expect to offer for this role. Individual placement within the range will be based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. Plus health, dental, vision, PTO, paid holidays, and professional development support including payroll certification reimbursement
