Job Responsibilities:

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Analyst, Tax with a strong focus on tax compliance and garnishment administration. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll tax laws and experience with Ceridian Dayforce.

Your Responsibilities

Tax Compliance:

  • Accurately calculate, report, and remit federal, state, and local payroll taxes in accordance with applicable laws.

  • Stay informed about changes in tax legislation, IRS regulations, and state/local tax codes; proactively update payroll systems to maintain compliance.

  • Assist with payroll tax audits by preparing required documentation and responding to inquiries from government agencies promptly and accurately.

  • Ensure compliance with all payroll tax filing deadlines, including quarterly and annual returns (e.g., 941, W-2, W-3, T4s, T4As, T2200, CRA forms, WSIB, EHT), to avoid fines and penalties.

  • Develop, document, and implement standardized tax compliance policies and internal controls to streamline processes and ensure consistency.

  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and internal finance teams for complex tax matters and year-end processes.

  • Monitor and reconcile tax liabilities and payments across jurisdictions, ensuring proper allocations and documentation.

Ceridian Dayforce Management:

  • Utilize Ceridian Dayforce for payroll processing, with a focus on tax and garnishment modules.

  • Troubleshoot Dayforce-related issues, identify root causes, and provide technical support and resolution in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate with the HRIS and IT teams to enhance system capabilities and support the integration of Dayforce with other business platforms.

  • Conduct regular system audits to ensure employee records, tax settings, and garnishment data are accurate and up to date.

  • Train and support payroll team members on new Dayforce features, system updates, and best practices to ensure efficient usage.

  • Participate in system upgrades, testing, and implementation of new modules, providing insights to optimize payroll functionality.

  • Maintain system documentation, user guides, and configuration logs for reference and compliance purposes.

Garnishment Administration:

  • Process employee garnishments, including child support, tax levies, and creditor garnishments.

  • Communicate with Division and external agencies regarding garnishment orders.

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure timely payments in compliance with legal requirements.

  • Monitor and manage garnishment balances and ensure proper allocation of funds.

  • Provide guidance and support to Division regarding garnishment-related questions and concerns.

Payroll Reconciliation and Reporting:

  • Reconcile payroll tax filings and garnishment deductions, ensuring alignment between payroll reports, tax submissions, and financial records.

  • Prepare, analyze, and review payroll reports-including earnings, tax, and deduction summaries-to ensure completeness and compliance.

  • Identify payroll discrepancies through detailed data analysis and implement corrective actions to maintain data integrity.

  • Generate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end payroll reports for accounting, audit, and compliance purposes.

  • Collaborate with Finance and HR teams to align payroll reporting with financial statements and internal controls.

  • Provide data and insights to support audits, budget planning, and executive decision-making related to payroll expenses.

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of payroll experience with a focus on tax and garnishments.

  • In-depth knowledge of U.S./Canadian payroll tax laws and regulations.

  • Proficiency in Ceridian Dayforce, including its tax and garnishment features.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
