About Bering Straits Native Corporation

Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) was formed as a result of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) in 1972. BSNC became the regional Alaska Native Corporation (ANC) for the Bering Strait region, which encompasses the majority of the Seward Peninsula and the coastal lands of eastern Norton Sound. This is one of the most culturally diverse regions in the state. Three distinct Native languages are spoken: St. Lawrence Island Yupik, Central Yup’ik, and Inupiaq.

About this position: Payroll Specialist Location – Anchorage, AK

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Enter and review bi-weekly and semi-monthly time sheets for union, SCA, Non-exempt and Exempt employees
  • Under general supervision this position is responsible for full payroll process of multi-state employee including auditing and processing incoming payroll data as well as assisting departments with applicable forms and processes
  • Responsible for processing payroll from start to finish often against tight deadlines.
  • Calculation of exemption items such as bonus, garnishments and terminations
  • Responsible for compiling, copying and insuring all filing and payroll reports are file accurately and timely
  • Review and updates employee leave records
  • Perform tasks to establish and maintain employee/payroll records
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population
  • Other related duties as required and assigned within the Payroll Department.

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications

  • Education Requirements: High school diploma or GED High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Level of Experience Requirements: At least (1) year of continuous payroll work experience
  • Experience processing payroll in a multi-company & multi-state environment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

· Must be able to operate office machines, including a computer, copier, fax and 10-key by touch as well as make arithmetic calculations.

· Ability to pass a drug, background, and reference checks

· Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.

· Managing one's own time and coordinating time with others.

· The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.

· Using computers and computer system software, enter data, or process information.

· Ability to meet daily & weekly deadlines.

· Ability to balance multiple competing priorities and deadlines.

· Good organizational and time management skills.

· Good interpersonal skills and able to work in a team environment.

· Dependable and punctual.

Supervisory Responsibilities

· This position will not have supervisory responsibilities.
