The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Payroll Administrator I to provide cross functional support across our People Operations teams including Payroll, People Relations and Employee Experience. You will be responsible for processing payroll accurately and on time while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations. You will also support employees by resolving payroll and HR-related inquiries, onboarding new hires, and assisting with employee relations and special projects.
You are detail oriented, deadline driven, and experienced in multistate payroll processing. You also bring strong technical skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to confidentiality, with the ability to manage routine payroll functions while contributing to process improvements.
Compensation: $70,000 to $80,000 annually, based on your experience, plus up to 10% annual bonus potential, paid out in quarterly installments.
Work Model: This role is based on-site at our Irvine headquarters to enable close collaboration with the team and other departments. Initially onsite; transitions to a hybrid schedule (one remote day per week) once fully onboarded.
What You'll Own
Payroll Processing
  • Execute end-to-end bi-weekly/semi-monthly payroll for multi-state populations, including manual calculations for commissions, bonuses, and tax levies
  • Review time sheets, commission and bonus calculations, and other information to detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations (including wage and hour laws)
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with onsite management providing support to ensure timely payroll processing
  • Process pay adjustments and post information to designated records
  • Compute wages and deductions, entering data into appropriate software programs
  • Keep up to date record for all employee time off, including sick, vacation and leaves of absence
  • Administer garnishments, tax levies, benefits deductions, and retirement contributions
  • Sort and send out paychecks to all locations

New Hire Onboarding and Terminations
  • Process onboarding for new employees and employment changes; entering employee information into the HRIS/payroll system
  • Send out new hire communications to assist new hires with their transition into the company
  • Process voluntary and involuntary terminations adhering to applicable processes and regulations

Employee Records & Reporting
  • Maintain all personnel records ensuring compliance
  • Run reports and auditing data as needed
  • Support year-end processes including W-2s and audits
  • Respond to and resolve employee payroll questions
  • Assist with payroll system updates, testing, and process improvements

Employee Relations and Special Projects
  • Help with People Relations projects, research and other department initiatives
  • Assist with the driving program and related administrative tasks
  • Support with employee disciplinary reports, performance plans EDRs and investigations to provide People Relations coverage as needed (training would be provided)
  • Process unemployment claims, including tracking deadlines and assisting with responses and appeals
  • Managing Trinity's national employee recognition program and other special projects

What You Bring
  • Experience personally processing payroll for at least 200 hourly employees simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes and wage and hour compliance
  • Experience with multi-state payroll and tax regulations
  • Employee Relations and Workers Comp experience is a plus
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under time constraints, especially during payroll cycles
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with payroll systems (ADP preferred)
  • Intermediate Excel skills (formulas, reconciliations, data validation)
  • Ability to interpret payroll policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
  • Professional, discreet handling of confidential information
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 2-3 years of payroll processing experience (mid-volume or higher preferred)
  • ADP WorkForce Now experience preferred
  • ADP Enhanced Time (Enterprise eTIME) or ADP Workforce Manager experience preferred
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) experience required
  • ADP or other payroll certification preferred
