Job description

Description:

Composition Brands is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Manager to play a critical role in establishing our independent People Operations infrastructure as we transition from a shared-services environment to a standalone company.

This is a unique opportunity to help lead the separation and implementation of payroll, benefits, and HR operations as Composition Brands builds its own systems, processes, and capabilities. Initially, the role will focus heavily on the carve-out of existing payroll and HR technology platforms, including Paylocity, while partnering closely with HR, Finance, IT, and external vendors to ensure a seamless transition for employees.

Once the standalone infrastructure is in place, this leader will oversee ongoing payroll and benefits administration, drive operational excellence, and help create scalable processes that support future growth.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building from the ground up, managing complex projects, and creating efficient, employee-centered solutions.

What You'll Do

Payroll Transformation & Carve-Out

  • Lead payroll-related activities associated with the transition from a shared-services environment to a standalone organization.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors to establish independent payroll processes, controls, and governance.
  • Support the implementation, configuration, testing, and optimization of Paylocity and related systems.
  • Develop payroll procedures, workflows, and documentation for the new organization.
  • Manage payroll readiness activities, including data validation, parallel testing, and process cutovers.

Payroll Operations

  • Oversee accurate and timely multi-state payroll processing.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Manage payroll audits, reconciliations, tax reporting, and employee inquiries.
  • Continuously improve payroll accuracy, efficiency, and employee experience.

Benefits Administration

  • Manage employee health, welfare, retirement, leave, and wellness programs.
  • Serve as the primary contact for benefit brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators.
  • Lead annual open enrollment and employee benefits communications.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable benefits regulations and reporting requirements.

People Operations & Analytics

  • Maintain employee records and HRIS data integrity.
  • Develop workforce, payroll, and benefits reporting and analytics.
  • Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Support broader HR initiatives, acquisitions, integrations, and organizational growth.

Requirements:
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in payroll, benefits administration, and HR operations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-state payroll processes for a U.S.-based workforce.
  • Experience supporting payroll system implementations, migrations, carve-outs, or business separations.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and wage and hour compliance requirements.
  • Experience administering employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, disability, and leave programs.
  • Proficiency with HRIS, payroll, and benefits administration systems, preferably Paylocity.
