Job description

The Payroll Manager is a functional expert and engaging leader who delivers flawless end-to-end payroll services to 4,000 employees across multiple companies and locations in the U.S. This includes payroll processing, tax activities, accounting reconcilement, internal controls, and compliance. In addition, the Payroll Manager continuously evaluates practices, procedures, and technology systems to optimize operational excellence and manage risk.

You Will:

  • Lead and engage the Payroll team, providing coaching and development to team members to enhance their skills and align individual growth with department performance.
  • Oversee the payroll process, maintaining policies, procedures and controls to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees.
  • Apply expert-level knowledge and problem-solving skills to promptly resolve discrepancies and escalated issues.
  • Manage tax filings/payments/issues internally and in collaboration with ADP.
  • Assist and support Accounting department partners regarding payroll transactions and GL reconciliation.
  • Deploy internal controls, reporting and audit procedures to ensure operational compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to optimize payroll-relevant technology systems, including SAP, UKG, ADP, and Workday. Serve as project business lead or project team member for upgrade and technology implementation initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant government regulations related to payroll. This includes meeting all government reporting requirements for payroll taxes, withholding and employer contributions.
  • Engage with the professional community to maintain currency with industry trends, best practices, technologies and the regulatory landscape.

You Have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience of multi-state payroll processing for a mid-sized or larger company.
  • A minimum of 5 years managing a payroll team, with a track record of efficacy leading, coaching, and motivating individuals to perform as a high-functioning team.
  • Deep subject-matter expertise in payroll functional operations and practices, including employment tax, wage garnishments, labor reporting, and legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Thorough working knowledge of payroll-relevant technologies (we use SAP, UKG, ADP, and Workday), as well as proactive habits to keep abreast of best-in-class and emerging technologies.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, detailed tasks simultaneously, while staying focused on key priorities, timelines, and managing a team.
  • Previous experience with payroll system migrations or implementations.
  • A passionate professional who engages in the payroll practitioner community and participates in continual education.
  • Superior collaboration, communication, and change management skills.
