Job description

Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group is actively seeking a Payroll Analyst I to practice out of our Administration office in Newport News. Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group (TPMG) is comprised of over 200 physicians and advanced practice clinicians and is the largest physician-owned group on the Peninsula. The schedule is full time work hours, Monday through Friday.
This position will support TPMG's Payroll and Accounting team. Primary responsibilities include: payroll processing, invoice data entry and document management (scanning/filing).
An associate's degree or higher in a related field is preferred but not required. Prior experience in payroll processing and HRIS/Payroll software systems along with advanced skills in Excel (filters, pivot tables, v-lookup, conditional formatting, and calculations) and Word are required. A strong foundation in mathematical skills such as financial calculations (retro pay adjustments, bonus calculations, paid time off, pay outs etc.) is essential to success in this role.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to diligently process large volumes of payroll data, demonstrate initiative, provide excellent internal and external customer service and maintain a positive attitude.
Full Position Details Below:
The position will be based out of TPMG administration in Newport News, VA and follows a Monday through Friday schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Prior experience processing payroll and working in payroll software systems is required.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Processes semi-monthly payroll and ensures data integrity for the payroll, HRIS and Sage accounting system.
  • Processes employee time sheets and checks for accuracy. Clarifies inconsistencies in payroll data with supervisors.
  • Helps employees understand payroll calculations and deductions, investigate problems and makes appropriate corrections.
  • Generates reports/queries from payroll and accounting systems, including writing, maintaining and supporting a variety of reports or queries utilizing appropriate reporting tools. Assists in the development of standard reports for ongoing internal customer needs. Helps maintain data integrity in systems by running queries and analyzing data.
  • Verifies and inputs vacation and sick leave banks for contracted employees.
  • Analyzes overtime reports and alerts supervisors if there are concerns or trends in overtime utilization.
  • Calculates overtime, differential and other special adjustments and rates for records.
  • Calculates tax deductions, benefits and other deductions for unusual or changed payroll data.
  • Generates and distributes manual checks when applicable.
  • Processes invoice data entry for accounts payable.
  • Assists with document management by scanning and filing.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of payroll and accounting practices and procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of HRIS systems, Microsoft Office products โ€“ specifically Excel spreadsheets and business enterprise software applications.
  • Knowledge of IRS regulations relating to pay and benefits.
  • Skill in interpreting and analyzing payroll data.
  • Skill in examining documents for correctness and interpreting their accuracy.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations and compute ratios and percentages.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of financial matters.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with others.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/REQUIREMENTS
  • Associateโ€™s degree in business administration or a related field preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3 or more years of payroll experience with HRIS and Accounting systems.
