The Payroll Specialist will be a valuable member in a team processing the full cycle payroll processing for our Nationwide teammates, ensuring that processes are executed properly and in a timely manner. As the Payroll Specialist at the Recipe, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of Recipe’s bi-weekly payroll. As the Recipe’s subject matter expert on payroll, you will investigate and resolve complex payroll queries, work on different reconciliations while developing and updating payroll documentation. You will be playing a key role in Ceridian Dayforce configuration and automation. As the subject matter expert on the team, you will act as a key frontline support person to teammates regarding payroll, vacation and RRSP inquiries.


What you will do in this role:


  • Process bi-weekly or weekly payrolls for hourly, salaried, union and non-union teammates
  • Manage various Recipe brands portfolio
  • Review and balance Time and Attendance
  • Audit payroll information entered through MSS to ensure accuracy
  • Ensure completeness of teammate information and documentation received (including all payroll related forms and change requests)
  • Enter payroll information into Dayforce in a timely manner to meet bi-weekly payroll processing timelines
  • Procedure Records of Employment ensuring government regulations are met
  • Prepare bi-weekly and month-end reports/remittances and ensure timely remittances to the respective authorities
  • Process bi-weekly payroll journal entries in JD Edwards financial system
  • Prepare off-cycle payments such as EFT and manual cheques, and maintain year-to-date entries
  • Assist in the year-end processing of T4/T4A/RL-1/W2 and the balancing and reconciling of government remittances
  • Liaise with other departments on payroll-related issues and queries
  • Investigate and resolve payroll issues/concerns raised by teammates/Managers in a prompt and professional manner
  • Maintain teammates payroll files according to retention guidelines
  • Ensure confidentiality of payroll information
  • Keep current with government legislative and tax changes as applicable
  • Act as a backup to colleagues on Payroll team as required


What we are looking for from you:


  • Level 2 Canadian Payroll or Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification is an asset
  • 5+ years of experience in a payroll environment preferred
  • US and/or International payroll experience is an asset
  • Working knowledge of Google, Sheets, GMail, Google Docs and Excel
  • Fast-learner and able to work with different systems
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple requests while maintaining deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced constantly changing environment
  • Ability to prioritize and organize time effectively to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information and issues with tact and diplomacy
