Pay Mod information

What is a pay mod?

A Pay Mod, short for 'Payroll Modifier' or 'Pay Modification Specialist,' is a professional responsible for managing and processing adjustments to employee payroll. This role involves making changes to pay rates, correcting payroll errors, handling retroactive payments, and ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant laws. Pay Mods collaborate closely with HR and finance departments to ensure accurate and timely compensation for employees. They also maintain detailed records and handle sensitive payroll information confidentially.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pay mod, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Payroll Administrator, you need a solid understanding of payroll processes, tax regulations, and accounting principles, typically supported by a relevant degree or payroll certification. Familiarity with payroll software such as ADP, QuickBooks, or SAP, as well as proficiency in Excel, is essential. Attention to detail, discretion, and strong organizational skills are valuable soft skills for ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. These skills and qualities are crucial for timely, accurate payroll processing and compliance with legal requirements.

What are the typical challenges faced by a pay mod when implementing new payroll systems or updates?

Pay Mod specialists often encounter challenges such as integrating new payroll software with existing HR and financial systems, ensuring data accuracy during migrations, and keeping up with ever-changing tax laws and compliance requirements. Collaboration with IT, HR, and finance teams is crucial to troubleshoot issues and streamline processes. Effective communication and problem-solving skills help navigate these complexities and ensure seamless payroll operations for all employees.

Synergy offers its employees a generous portfolio of core and voluntary benefits including: group medical, dental, and vision insurance, company paid life, short-term, and long-term disability insurance; HSA, FSA; 401(k) with immediately vested company match; PTO/Sick Leave, 11 paid federal holidays, parental leave; tuition and training reimbursement; a referral bonus program; and life management programs.

Our team is eager to learn, fast-paced, and quality-driven—if that sounds like you, Synergy has a position for you!

This position is designated as work-from-home.

Description:

As a Senior Appian Developer at Synergy, your primary role is to be an expert in the design and implementation of Appian code. You must be able to analyze complex existing systems with significant tech debt and performance limitations. The solutions you build must fulfill the requirements of the client, perform well under high load, and not introduce unnecessary technical debt in the future.  Specifically, much of the work required will involve highly complex and technical expression rules and interfaces, so expertise in looping, local variables, and the flow of information between Appian objects is a must. As a member of a large team, you will also be responsible for mentoring more junior developers, as well as peer-reviewing the code produced by your peers.

Essential Functions & Duties:

  • Five (5) years of skilled experience in using BPMN-based low-code/no-code tools to model business processes and develop automation software that aligns with operational workflows and compliance standards.
  • Five (5) years demonstrated experience integrating and leveraging APIs to support Low-Code/No-Code development platform models for scalable and modular application design.
  • Proven track record in agile application development, enabling rapid delivery of business solutions with iterative refinement.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and AI/ML integration strategies.
  • Experience using software and tools such as, Ansible Orchestration, Apache Web Server (mod_jk), Appian, Elasticsearch, Git Lab, JBoss (EAP &Fuse), Kafka, Keycloak, Kubernetes, Java (AMQ Broker), Open Shift, Oracle , RHEL Server, Tomcat, Zookeeper.
  • Relevant certification from a nationally recognized technical authority such as Google, AWS, Microsoft and/or professional organizations such as IEEE and Scrum Alliance.

Clearance:

  • Must possess IT-II Non-Critical Sensitive security clearance or Tier 3 (T3).

Compensation:

Compensation for roles at Synergy varies depending on a wide variety of factors including but not limited to the requirements of the role; education and certifications; knowledge, training, skills and abilities; level of experience; geographic location; and alignment with market data, law, and other business and organizational needs. As required by local law, the posted pay range represents the lowest to the highest pay that Synergy believes in good faith it might pay for this particular job, depending on the circumstances. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

A reasonable estimate of the current pay range is: $133,000 – $160,000.

Synergy is an equal opportunity employer, and does not discriminate against applicants for employment or its employees on the basis of age, race (including hair texture/style), creed, color, religion, religious creed, ancestry, national origin, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, military or veteran status, sex, medical condition, pregnancy (childbirth, breastfeeding, and related medical conditions), physical or mental disability, personal appearance, organ donation and hair length associated with race, genetic information or characteristics, family responsibilities, familial status, marital status, citizenship or immigration status, status as a victim of domestic violence, a sexual offense, or stalking, political affiliation, arrest records and criminal convictions, credit information, matriculation, homeless status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state and local law. Discrimination or harassment based upon these protected categories is expressly prohibited. This policy applies to all aspects of employment, including job selection, assignment, promotion, compensation, benefits, training, discipline and termination.
