What is paving software?

Paving software is a specialized digital tool designed to help paving contractors and companies manage various aspects of their business, such as estimating, scheduling, project management, and invoicing. It streamlines workflows by automating tasks like job costing, crew scheduling, and customer communications. Using paving software can improve efficiency, reduce errors, and help businesses deliver projects on time and within budget.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working with paving software in the construction industry?

Professionals using paving software often encounter challenges such as integrating the software with legacy systems, ensuring accurate data input from field teams, and keeping up with frequent updates or new features. Additionally, coordinating between project managers, field crews, and clients requires strong communication skills, as the software is often used to track project progress and quality. Overcoming these hurdles typically involves ongoing training, collaboration with IT support, and leveraging vendor resources for troubleshooting and best practices.

Job description

About Pave America

Pave America is the nation's premier self-performing asphalt and concrete service provider, bringing together more than 30 established paving companies across the United States. We combine the resources, technology, and scale of a national platform with the local expertise and reputation of trusted regional brands. Our teams serve commercial, industrial, HOA, utility, and municipal clients nationwide, delivering everything from paving and concrete to milling, striping, and sealcoating. We are proud to be the official paving partner of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

We are growing, and we are investing in the financial talent and systems that support that growth.

Position Summary

We are seeking an Assistant Regional Controller to support accounting operations across our North and Mid-Atlantic Regions. Based in our Purcellville, VA area office, this role partners closely with the Regional Controller and Regional CFO to ensure accurate job-level financial reporting, timely month-end close, and strong internal controls across multiple branches and entities.

This is a hands-on role for an accounting professional who understands construction and how the numbers behind a project actually work — from estimate to job cost to revenue recognition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support month-end and year-end close for multiple branches and legal entities within the region, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Own and maintain job costing accuracy — track project costs against estimates, review committed costs, and partner with operations and project managers to resolve variances.
  • Assist in work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and over/under billing analysis for active construction jobs.
  • Prepare and review branch-level P&L, balance sheet, and margin reporting; help investigate and explain variances to budget and forecast.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial data in the company's ERP system (NetSuite) and supporting subledgers.
  • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll coordination as needed to ensure complete and accurate cost capture.
  • Help strengthen and document internal controls, accounting policies, and close procedures across the region.
  • Support external audit and lender requests with timely, well-organized schedules and documentation.
  • Assist with integration and standardization of accounting processes as new branches join the region.
  • Partner cross-functionally with regional leadership, corporate finance, and branch teams to provide reliable, decision-useful financial information.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a meaningful portion in construction accounting and job costing.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction-specific accounting concepts: job cost tracking, committed costs, WIP, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and over/under billings.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and month-end close processes.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets across multiple branches or entities.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work on-site at our Purcellville, VA area office with some travel to other sites in VA.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite (strongly preferred).
  • Experience in a multi-branch, multi-entity, or private equity-backed organization.
  • Experience supporting an acquisitive or rapidly growing company, including entity or system integrations.
  • CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification.
  • Familiarity with construction/paving estimating or project management software.

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary of $130-145K, commensurate with experience.
  • Performance-based bonus eligibility.
  • Comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • A collaborative, people-first culture that values quality, accountability, and doing the job the right way.
