Position: Patient Care Tech (PCT)

Department: ED

Shift: Part-Time | Evenings-11am-11:30pm | 24 hours per week

🏥 Department Overview

26 bed unit- provides excellent care to our community 24/7. We are a highly motivated, hardworking, extreme team focused and talented group of coworkers. Opportunity to care for a large variety of illnesses and injuries given there are no other trauma rated or pediatric specific emergency departments in our immediate area. Nurse to patient ratio is generally 1:4 for nurses. We do have patient care technician, paramedics and patient support associates as part of our care team as well.

đź’ˇ Position Overview

Under the supervision of an RN or LPN, the Patient Care Tech provides hands-on care and support to patients, helping them achieve their highest level of wellness and comfort.

Responsibilities

Patient Care Technician (PCT):

In addition to PCA duties, PCTs perform:

  • Phlebotomy and blood cultures

  • Enteral feedings

  • Wound care

  • IV/Foley removal

  • Tracheostomy care and suctioning

🎓 Training & Development

Our PCA/PCT Training Program is an accredited Department of Labor Apprenticeship, offering comprehensive, hands-on experience in a supportive learning environment.

If you do not have prior experience, Mercy provides a 175-hour training program (meeting Department of Health and Senior Services standards) to be completed within 90 days of hire.

  • BLS Certification: Required within 1 month of hire

  • Competencies: Completed within 3 months of hire

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • CNA/CPTC certification, enrollment in a healthcare career program through their high school, or current Mercy caregiver preferred

Experience:

  • No prior experience required - we will train you!

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and squatting

  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist and squat to perform duties

Preferred: EMT, Paramedic, Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Patient Care Technician (PCT)
