Job description

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the Electrophysiology (EP) Lab is responsible for providing specialized nursing care during cardiac electrophysiology procedures. This includes performing baseline measurements, cardiac ablation, mapping, cardioversion, conduction studies, and managing implanted cardiac devices such as AICDs and pacemakers. The role involves medication administration, procedural assistance, patient monitoring, and documentation using EPIC. The nurse must have strong clinical skills, relevant certifications, and at least two years of experience in a related field.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform baseline measurements, cardiac ablation, cardiac mapping, cardioversion, and conduction studies in the EP Lab.
  • Insert and program Automatic Implantable Cardiac Defibrillators (AICDs) and pacemakers.
  • Assist with scrub procedures and use vascular closure systems such as Perclose and StarClose.
  • Administer antihypertensives, emergency medications, IV vasopressors, thrombolytics, and blood products as needed.
  • Provide care and maintenance for implanted ports and conduct activated clotting time (ACT) testing.
  • Remove sheaths and monitor patients post-procedure applying topical hemostasis methods (D-Stat, Chito-Seal, Syvek Patch).
  • Circulate during procedures and interpret/manage cardiac dysrhythmias.
  • Use and/or scrub with the Micropace monitoring system during ablations.
  • Perform mandatory competencies in phlebotomy and IV placement.
  • Document patient care and procedural details accurately using EPIC.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice (pending licenses not accepted).
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant nursing experience.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Competency in phlebotomy and IV placement.
  • Ability to scrub and/or utilize Micropace monitoring system.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience with vascular closure devices such as Perclose and StarClose.
  • Familiarity with cardiac device programming and management.
  • Experience using EPIC electronic health record system.
Special Considerations:
  • No weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts required.
  • Scrubs are provided.
  • Local candidates are not eligible; must reside 75+ miles from the facility.
  • Only one week of Requested Time Off (RTO) allowed per contract.
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed.
  • First-time travel nurses are accepted.
Scheduling:
  • Work schedule is based on block scheduling with no weekend, holiday, or on-call shifts.
  • Shift assignments and hours will be determined by the facility's EP Lab needs.
