What is a pastry helper?

Pastry Helpers are kitchen staff who assist pastry chefs or bakers in preparing, assembling, and presenting baked goods and desserts. Their tasks often include measuring ingredients, mixing doughs and batters, cleaning workspaces, and organizing supplies. Pastry Helpers play a key support role, ensuring that the pastry section of a kitchen runs smoothly and efficiently. They may also help decorate desserts and ensure quality control under the supervision of more experienced pastry professionals.

What challenges might a pastry helper face during busy service periods?

During peak hours, Pastry Helpers often encounter challenges such as managing multiple tasks simultaneously, maintaining consistency in product quality, and keeping up with rapid order flow. It’s essential to stay organized, communicate effectively with pastry chefs and other kitchen staff, and prioritize tasks to ensure all items are prepared and presented on time. Adapting quickly to last-minute changes and maintaining a clean work area under pressure are also key to succeeding in this fast-paced environment.

Job description

Create the Classics. Craft the Moments.

Now Hiring: Pastry Cook | Bonrue Bakery

Who We Are

Bonrue Bakery is a chef-driven concept where technique, taste, and teamwork come together in every bite. We’re known for our croissants, seasonal pastries, and beautifully crafted desserts—but behind every product is a team of pastry professionals who take pride in their work.

We’re hiring for our Pastry Team—detail-oriented individuals who love working with dough, glazes, and fillings, and who thrive in a fast-paced, high-quality environment. Whether you’re scaling recipes or hand-finishing product, this role is essential to the Bonrue experience.

The Role

You’ll prepare, finish, and plate a variety of desserts and pastry case items—supporting daily production, seasonal specials, and new product launches. You’ll follow Bonrue recipes with precision, maintain a clean and organized station, and help ensure our guests receive consistent, beautiful desserts every day.

What You’ll Do

  • Follow recipes to prepare fillings, creams, doughs, icings, glazes, and garnishes
  • Finish and decorate desserts with consistency and attention to detail
  • Support prep and production of tart shells, cookies, pastries, and seasonal items
  • Set up the pastry case with fresh, beautifully presented product
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe pastry station
  • Label, rotate, and store product according to Bonrue and health department standards
  • Assist with production logs and prep lists
  • Communicate clearly with team leads to stay ahead of volume
  • Support other BOH and FOH teams as needed

Who You Are

You might be a great fit if you:

  • Have 1-2 years experience with pastry or dessert prep (professional or educational)
  • Open availability: must be able to work morning or evening shifts, with flexibility around days off (including weekends and holidays as needed)
  • Are comfortable in a fast-paced kitchen and love staying organized
  • Have strong attention to detail and care deeply about presentation
  • Are dependable, coachable, and eager to learn
  • Can work early mornings, weekends, or holidays based on bakery needs
  • Hold a valid Utah Food Handler’s Permit (or are willing to get one)

What We Offer
  • Competitive hourly pay
  • Flexible schedules (full-time or part-time)
  • Employee discounts
  • Growth opportunities across pastry, savory, and leadership tracks
  • Positive, fast-paced kitchen culture
  • Paid training and support for certifications
