BACKHAUS Pastry Baker BURLINGAME LOCATION

Backhaus has opened a second location in downtown Burlingame and is seeking passionate and driven pastry bakers to join our team. 


We are looking for team members who are team players through and through, always excited and open to keep learning and motivated to grow with our company.

You:

  • are a good communicator;

  • have great attention to detail and love analyzing product quality to ensure that we consistently meet and exceed our high quality standards;

  • have experience as a baker, especially working with viennoiserie and other pastries;
  • are comfortable using standard bakery equipment;
  • enjoy our style of bread and are obsessed with continuously learning and improving your craft.

This is a full-time, hourly position based out of Burlingame.


Our pastry bakers report directly to the Head of Pastry Team.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work alongside the pastry team in production of all our pastries. 
  • Daily production tasks include, but are not limited to: 
    • mise-en-place, scaling, and other prep;
    • mixing of doughs, batters, and other components;
    • lamination;
    • shaping;
    • baking;
    • clean-up, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-2 years experience in a bakery or restaurant setting.
  • Excellent communication and teamworking skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Drive, spreadsheets and general comfort with use of technology.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. (Required)

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

The physical requirements listed are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Regular and consistent attendance and the ability to sit and work with hands and arms for at least ten (10) hours per day and four (4) days per week.

Physical ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, walk, crawl, push and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds. 

Stand and move throughout the cafe/bakery.

Must be able to interact with employees/customers for at least eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week.

Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.

Have consistent and reliable onsite attendance at the bakery.

Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills in English.

Interpret and follow a variety of instructions and procedures furnished in English - written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Write routine reports and correspondence.

Meet daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly and other deadlines consistently.

Work under pressure with changing priorities.

Communicate effectively and promptly to clients, vendors, and employees of the organization.

High level of manual dexterity to adeptly type and use computer equipment.

Auditory and visual skills – Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Ability to work overtime occasionally at the last minute.

Stand stationary in the bakery throughout the shift for periods of time (up to 8 hours per day, 5 days per week).
